My car ET's faster if the tires spin some

Only if they just spin a little bit though. It ran 13.1 if it dead hooked and 13.0 if I didn't heat them enough and they spun just a little.

I think it makes up for my lack of a decent converter. That leads me to my next question, 2800 or 3000 stall?

When it hooks up, you're probably bogging the engine down too much. A higher stall is needed. A couple of hundred rpm over your peak torque would be suggested.

It definitely bogs when it hooks up, you can hear/see/feel it.

I'm going to use the same excuse everyone does for not getting a "big" converter, it's a street car.

I'm not really sure where this engine makes peak torque, I think it's somewhere around 3400-3500.

i would think 2500 would work for a good compromise.

I'd go 3200-3500 and have at it, shouldn't be a problem with a lockup trans at all to drive on the street, just run a trans cooler and you'll be golden.

Re: My car ET's faster if the tires spin some

yep, a good lockup 3200-3400 would be perfect for a street car. You have a 700r4 right?

You can adjust the lockup mph speeds for the converter too in the PROM, so it will lockup sooner when your goin up hills or something. That way the trans isnt spinning that fast and wont overheat. I did this to my 2800 stall. stock it would lockup at 40mph in overdrive and part throttle. i set it to 30mph to basically idle up hills instead of screamin at 2200-2500 rpms lol.

Transcooler is a great idea to tho.

If I had a PROM that'd be great but.......... it's Carb'd :P with a hydraulic lockup in 4th, when it shifts to 4th it locks, no sooner, no later.

I'll look around for some 3200-3400 ones.

Like all these guys said, just run a lockup, a 2500-3000rpm stall would work well with your combo. Whats your 60foot now? Just looking quickly, I'd think you're under-carbed. What rpm/mph are you trapping at. Everything in your combo looks like it should breath pretty good, and then you've got a 600cfm carb to cap it off, I'm sure that combo would support a 750cfm vacuum secondary carb, or if you were to go with a decent amount of coverter a mechanical secondary carb. Converter alone would take you into the 12's, more carb would take you even further.

The 60' is 2.0, I have a 750 vac secondary carb, I just need to rebuild/assemble it. The car traps 108 mph, about 5400 across the line I think, it's hard to tell.

It shifts into 4th at about 40ish when you're just putting along.

You're just a better 60' away from 12's, you've got enough mph. Converter ought to do it.

I'm going to talk with my trans shop this week and see what he can do for me.

I already have a trans cooler too.

Holy crap, you are doing this with a 600 carb? You needed a 750 or larger, like, yesterday!!

Looks like I have to go find the 3 or 4 gaskets I need to assemble my 750 VS.

This cam is starting to get boring too. The converter would come first though.

Got the 750 together and on, car feels faster for sure. I've still got a little bog to take care of but I have an idea. I'm gonna go to the friday night test and tune this week and then to an auto-x saturday.

12.9 at 109, ran the same number 6 times in a row tonight. On street rubber to boot!

A couple people said they were about 1 mph slower than normal too.
