My Firebird finally has wings: 10.84 seconds!

After 3 consecutive transmission failures, I finally got one that will hold. Car responded with back to back 10.85, 10.84, 10.88. All at 125-126 mph. As always, uncorrected. 92 octane, 16x8 Formula salad shooters, drove it 40 miles to the track and back. Stock 1991 730 ECU with tuning.

The 60 foots were horrible for this power level: 1.75 seconds. There were alot of oil downs which I attribute to my poor 60s. (I'm denying that I just may suck at driving and trying to blame the track)

My bottle pressure was down and the 150 shot wasn't really "kicking" as per usual. With some 1.55 60s and proper bottle pressure I think the car "could" go 10.40s. Thoughts?

Thanks everyone for all the help and advice through the years!

Re: My Firebird finally has wings: 10.84 seconds!

So the vehicle runs 11.8 on motor and 10.8 on a 150 shot? I'm surprised that the 150 shot was worth 1 second, typically it takes a 200 shot to get those results at those ETs. Is it a NX kit or a similar kit that rates its jets at the RWHP gains and not motor gains? That 60' sure isn't as good as it could be, are you spraying out of the hole?

Re: My Firebird finally has wings: 10.84 seconds!

It ran 11.7 hot right off of the highway. It is just the NOS TPI nitrous kit with an NX shark nozzle. 62 N20 jet, i believe. Don't believe rwhp nitrous numbers. Every motor combo responds in a unique fashion to a particular jetting. Every yahoo at the track will say something to the effect of "it is only a 100 shot." I had a guy tell me his dual stage TNT kit was "only 100 hp" Please.
Mine happens to wake up a little more than typical when nitrous is applied. I think about .8 second at this speed level for 150 shot is typical. I got .85. About right, wouldn't you say? The motor hated the hooker long tubes NA. Loved them with N2O.

Since I can't hook out of the hole NA, I can't on bottle either. not spraying until about 100 feet. Leave off idle(yes, no typo), roll into throttle. When the weight is on the back wheels, it hooks pretty well.

Whats the entire combo?

And I say if youw were launching like that, it wasn't all because of the track.

Re: My Firebird finally has wings: 10.84 seconds!

Thanks for the replies. Go to the link under my signature and click "firebird mods" That is the combo but i used ET streets for these runs. I think it would pick up alot with a solid roller and 100 percent ported AFR heads. Mine are 7 years old and aren't as ported as even the baseline ones are now.

My 60 was 1.5 tenths off from another track. Hopefully I can work it down. Or I can just chuck on another 50hp shot..........

Re: My Firebird finally has wings: 10.84 seconds!

This dude is a poser! Those are 1/8 mile times he claiming! I'm requesting timeslips. Must be those Indiana timing systems, not a TSI or CompuLink. Probably used a GTech or something.

Great job buddy. IMHO, your "street" motor makes wayyyy to much power down low. With a bigger runner head and different cam (shifting your power level up to a desired drag racing RPM range) you'd really see a difference. In the temporary, loosing up your front suspension would help a ton. Take it from me, the guy who's car would hook in the sand, giving up a little down low isn't such a bad thing.

If it wasn't for the MPH, I'd almost guess the same thing. Times are too close to typical slow 1/8 mile times. His 1/8 mile times are probably very high 6's.

Pretty tough words coming from "Jim, I can't make my car go 10s even with abundant swiss cheesing of the body panels, Feaster" At least you can show people your "0" face. 11 point "O", "O", "O", "O"..........

JFeaster, thanks for the congratulatory remark, the first one on this post.

I posted the slip in my original post just now. I'd agree, the 190 cc intake runner makes a fun, torquey engine, just not a good ET engine.
