1st time drag racing
I ran my Firebird at the local 1/8th mile track for the first time today. It's the first time I've ever raced. I had a great time. I got 5 practice runs in before the racing started. Its a small track that closed sometime in the 70's I believe. They re-opened a few years ago and started bracket racing. My practice runs were: #1 8.99 #2 8.88 #3 8.93 #4 8.92 #5 8.93
I ran with a dial in of 8.80 and ran and 8.88 on the first run and won. Second run ended up with an 8.70 so i lost but I would of lost anyway. I'm curious what I might run in the 1/4. If anyone knows how I can ballpark that please let me know. The car only has a few mods and I'm just out there for the fun of it---For now.

Sounds like you had a great first day racing. Here is a site that has a converter form 1/8th to 1/4.

Re: 1st time drag racing
Thanks. I had a very good day. Only problem was the not so firm shifts of the stock 700r4. According to the converter 8.70-8.99 = 13.62-14.06. Its a good starting point, but could use some improvement. I guess I've been bitten by the bug!

Re: 1st time drag racing
Typically you take your 1/8 mile time and multiply it by 1.56 to give a rough estimate of a 1/4 mile time. There is no 100% exact conversion number. Sometimes you'll be faster, sometimes slower.
Running 8.70's in the 1/8 mile means you should run a mid 13 in the 1/4.
I'm amazed that you decided to dial in 8.80 after time trial runs 3-5. I probably would have dialed 8.91.

if i only hit low 8.9's earlier, i would probably dial in 8.90 at fastest.. but sounds like it was fun.. cant wait to get back home and race

Re: 1st time drag racing
i agree he was pretty damn consistent.. i was just saying that if i were racing for the first time, i wouldnt really want to dial in that quick without knowing it can go that fast.. .08 faster than your best of the night.. with consistent .92-.93's

Re: 1st time drag racing
I had actually given them a dial in of 8.88 but they apparently thought i said 8.80. I was just there for fun so I really didn't push the issue. Besides, I put myself out with an 8.70 so it really didn't matter any way. Thanks for the info and compliments. I wont be able to race again for 2 weeks--bummer. Hopefully I will have better times to post then.
