my quest for the 12sec....

Im almost there....still having some traction issue with my dr....little since i was able tu pull 1.8sec 60'....but was still spinning at 1-2 shift.

Last saturday was nice was able to pull some 13.2-1@104-105mph....after some pratice I was able to do 13.045-007@105-106mph(my last 4 run where in this range ) did 11 in an hour with a 20min break, the powertrain seem to hold really good and im really happy.

this saturday im going again, but with 2 new member to the family....28x10x16 hoosier racing slick....and they look great on the car

I still have a few ? tire psi? thinking of 16-18psi....I have a 36mm front swaybar(not hollow) should i unbolt it or completely remove it....rear swaybar is 24mm solid too...any other trick would be apreciated.

Car spec....engine: perf rpm head,xe 274 cam, airgap intake, 650dp holley, 357cu.in about 10.0 to 1 comp. Trans: 700 full man, super servo, z-pack clutch....well freshly built. Diff: 4.11 gear ls1 posi still holding

Thanks Seb

Re: my quest for the 12sec....

did it twince in six run.....12.96@109mph and 12.83@110mph.....with ugly 1.8 60'.....so guessing by the fact my car wasnt spinning I need a biger stall??? I have a stock modify to 2500stall with no lock up....so i should look into as 10" or 9" 3000 or 3500. I tough my 2500 was right with an xe 274 guess i was wrong.

Thanks
Seb

Re: my quest for the 12sec....

10" 3500 stall at least, if you're at the track ditch the front sway bar as well completely, it's not needed for drag racing. keep the rear one on there.

Re: my quest for the 12sec....

With that mph you should be going much faster than 12.9xx, My best is a 12.67 @107 with a 1.74 60'. but your right, a 2500 stall isn't nearly enough, I ran a tci breakaway (~2200 stall) last year and went 2.0 60' s, swapped to a hughs 3500 race converter and have been going mid 1.7's. get a looser stall, and you should see the bottom side of 12.50's. good luck.

Re: my quest for the 12sec....

You should gain .2-.3 seconds off your time with a good stall. I have the Yank SS3600 on my car and it was worth 3 tenths. It also has very good street manners. Don't go cheap on the stall. Vigilante and Yank are among the best.

Re: my quest for the 12sec....

you should be mid-low 12's with that mph.. i run 12.4-12.6 with a 109-110mph.. low 1.8 60ft's too, never been in the 1.7's.. but i run a stick.. something is killing your middle ground.. and like everyone else said, get a higher stall and ditch the front sway bar..

Re: my quest for the 12sec....

thanks for your answer everyone...i am gonna start lokking for a good 3500 stall.....and for something killing the car, Its my fault again, since the car was built on restricted budget I keep my old flowtech 1"1/2 header and my dynomax 2"1/2 exhaust and turbo muffler....Its leaving as soon as some cash came in and still have stock gm rocker....beat me please

thanks again everyone
Seb

Re: my quest for the 12sec....

Get a pair of long tube headers if you're on a tight budget buy the Headman long tubes and do dual 2.5 ex. with some magnaflows or simular style mufflers but remember just say no to the flowmasters.

Re: my quest for the 12sec....

I think that your 4.11 gears, along with your 3.06 first gear ratio of your 700R4, is a bit much. The taller 28 inch tire is helping a bit, but probably still too much gear IMHO.

Re: my quest for the 12sec....

I am having traction problems also. My time and engine/trans combo is in my sig. I am going to pick up some hoosiers QTP's an try them. My 60's were 1.84 spinning for 10-12ft and breaking loose on the 1-2 shift. I went to weld draglites skinnies up front and 15x8's in back. I am saving around 30 lbs with the wheels and 26 lbs with just the rear tires.

Good luck getting into the 12's. I should be running faster also.
Let us know how the slicks work out.

Thats kinda funny! I'm runnin a 700, 4.10's and only a 26" m/t e/t!! cars gone a best of 1.74 60', but i'm at the top of 1st in probably less than 100'!! but the car crosses the line at 5800 in third without locking the converter, and about 5300 with the converter locked.

I have got 1.6 rockers coming wednesday, and I think the edelbrock tes headers are gunna be replaced with a set of hooker long tubes next month. then the vac. secondaries are being replaced with a holley d.p., with all that it should help get the 60' down a little more, and the front left up a little higher.

SebasIroc,
I have close to the same combo but EFI. Edelbrock perf rpm heads, and the XE274 cam and the stealth ram intake.
What RPM are you shifting at?
Thanks.

Re: my quest for the 12sec....

about 6k and crossing the line at about 5500-5800 rpm....i would go a little higher but the car is missing power in the top cause of lack of exhaust, 1"1/2 header are no good up there.

seriously i wouldnt be scared shifting at 6500rpm...your best bet is changing shift point between run , by the way i still have my stock tach in the car so it might be off a little.
