New best for 496 bbc.

Well back to track for opening day, car basically untouched from last year except for rear disc that did not help braking much, a line lock and got rid of secondary power valve..

First pass breaking up in first and second (the reason I got rid of power valve)
but did not help.. felt it was loading up while on trans brake...
Anyway 10.1 @ 135 w 1.36 60ft.

Second pass reduced primary jetting from 100's to 97's car responded by beating best by .006 9.720 @ 139.5 1.36 60ft.

Third pass reduced secondary jetting from 108's to 105's - this time I was first in line (I never do that because first car usually spins) anyway I see they are letting some rails go first - they are all refusing left lane!! hmmm..
So I get up to line and see the heavy powder left all over starting line wtf!!!! try a john force burnout to clean some of that....

Anyway launch, spin (first time ever spinning with this combo and 10" tires)

9.723 @ 140.6 1.41 60ft.. Would have been new best and in the 60's.. pretty happy being the DA was near 3000, not bad air but will get better...

Hope to see some 9.50s soon, then maybe spray it....

Check out parts for sale for my Tubular K, coil overs, 90/10 struts, headers,Y-pipe from my now wrecked 87 TA.

Thank you.

Yeah,
It came with 100's in all 4 corners and (2) power valves - so getting rid of
the power valve and increased 8 as opposed to 10 as suggested.

Orr89,
Thank you, its getting there - Get your buggy going!!!
p.s. The centerlines are all good I think, one beat a little but does not look bent but need to look closer yet.. good chance it is..
Keeping them reguardless..

Congrats on the new best. I would say you did pretty well for the first day at the track this year and looking forward to seeing better times through the season.

Re: New best for 496 bbc.

last time at a 1/4 ran a 9.99 132 with a 1.39 60 ft (1.35 best 60 of the day)but that was after turning left part of the day, worked ok if the front got way up but after we got it going without the preload in the rear bar it went straight as an arrow but all that was with a 350 and if it wasnt hitting the rev limiter from 1000 foot woulda been faster( torque converter was going to sh!*)

You are doing great!
133 mph, she has 10.0s in her! and once you 60ft well enough to get it there
then it will pull even more mph - just seems like you need more converter..

Leaning it out helped alot.. it was way rich, still is I think

Well Thank you SIR!

I`m up to you 95`s square and it still looks lean I know I should be jetting down but I just switched plugs and realized that the other ones I was using were not showing like they should be so I`m working up watching the MPH and et...still going up and yes, I think you right the converter is stalling @ 4400 and I`m thinking about going 5500.

Are you checking plugs right after a full throttle pass - shutting engine down end of traps? they can change very quickly..

Car is awesome reguardless man - that converter will help alot!

Re: New best for 496 bbc.

No, I check them after getting back to the pitt...wouldn`t they show richer after chugging pack to your pitt anyway? I`m going to move up the luanch rpm to 4200 next time out...if the track will hold it LOL.

Would depend on low engine speed circuit, You are probably running power valves still??
Mine has held 4700 pretty consistant, tried 4900 twice - spun both times
but the track prep was not done on one and the other I was the first car on
terrible prep.. It will hold it on a nice day..
Do you have a solid sway bar on rear - that helped my car tremendously!!

I`m running a 1090 demon and I have the idle circut leaned so it does not load at low speeds at all. The front and rear power valves are blocked and the plugs porcelin are white most of the way down, the heat mark on the ground strap is right at the bend, I`m using mr43t`s which are a recessed tip and the only variation are the two rear plugs at each bank, they show a little gray instead of white.
No solid bar but after stripping a new slick on the passenger wheel well, I think it`s time for something....you have pictures of your install on that?

Re: New best for 496 bbc.

I will get some for you - you will love how the car leaves after that, I used the cheap comp universal kit too.
Maybe she is still lean then, but should check after track to see for sure to be certain..
Mine are 97's front with power valve, 105 rear no power valve.

Re: New best for 496 bbc.

i put a rear anti roll bar in this car and the first several passes it turned left bad readjusted it( not like it had instructions) started with it neutral with driver in like it would be run.....except that didnt work , readjusted it neutral no driver and bam straight as an arrow and took a trophy from the track owner to boot! I removed the gas tank, built a fuel cell (even has a sending unit) and plated the area under the cage rear bars both on the floor and on the sides of the frame rails (still stock suspension and not tubbed) made a crossmember and stand offs for the bar ( 1 1/4 0.250 wall with 1 0.250 wall tube welded inside) attached the arms and have tie rods to rear end still have full travel on the suspension (dont use it though) ill see if i can get pics of it if you have stock rear section, if it is back halved its easier

I actually mounted mine backward, with the torsion bar under rear and links to frame rail.. seemed like I would need less fab work that way..
I just installed mine neutral without driver, launched perfect ever since..
very level now, and hooks great.. car is not back halved either.
