few pictures of the machine

496 is done and will be to the track this weekend for a flog, I re-did the dash with auto meters and a shift lite in the cig lighter hole, also did the reverse gear pattern on the console for the quarter stick, some of the 8 point s&w is visible too.

sexy!

A few questions if I may:
did you make the gauge panel? what material?
how much did those gauges set you back, if I may ask?
What was the 11.27 with? what are you expecting now?

guage panels are made out of thin sheets of aluminum, I have one in my cardomain site in my sig as well. All guages are on summitracing.com if you want to price them out, I have close to a grand I think now in all my guages.

oh ok, I've heard of aluminum for that, wasn't sure if it was the norm, or just what some guys have done. I figured a sheet of ABS, since it'd look somewhat stock.

$1000 eh? Yea, that's about what I thought I was hoping there was a loop hole or something, $1000 for gauges is pretty damn hard for me to justify...

Haha! Yea it`s a 1090 and everyone around here says it`s on the small side for this engine LoL!

sexy!

A few questions if I may:

The gauge panel is made from the stock head unit and stock plastic cover, I paid an average of 40$ a guage x 5 and about 50$ for the used speedo and I got a smokin deal on the shift lite/tach for 65$ (ebay) took me a good 12 hrs of off and on to get eveything in the cramped spaces and wire it all up to pigtails for easy removal.

the 11.27 was 2 yrs ago, maybe three and was on a cool october day with a 10.25 454 with a solid lift .620/ 260 duration cam merlin heads and a 175 shot I borrowed from a freind, I only used the shot for third gear too. I`m expecting to see some 10 timeslips, the car wasa struggling with the last motor to get out of the 11.50 range on motor with a 3.70 cog, this engine should be laying down another 100-150 horse so traction will be even worse I assume but this has always been a sandbagger since I`ve owned.

Thanks, the S&W cage is the only way to go in these cars, man every fishmouth was there and every bar was bent perfect I expect alot worse buit it really was nice to install, I`m not gonna hesitate to buy the 10 point conversion from them, the a pillar bars look a bit strange but no need to cut the dash pad either...btw I got the clearenced door bars to keep the arm rests..only way to go I still can sit my elbow on the arm rest!

hmm, what brand of gauges were those that were only that much $?
I didn't think you'd be able to get them in the stock setup, but it sure looks clean.
Do tell about the brand though, I only know of autometer, and the ones that would be mountable like that tend to be $$$$... (compared to the cheesy ones that just bolt onto your dashpad or something).

They are all autometer except the tach which is an autogauge, it`s a real tight fit with those three over the column, they all touch each other. it was worth the work to get`em in the stock locations. the tack and speedo wasn`t too bad to install, basically all you need is the white plastic frame and the outer bezel and plenty of time with carbide cutters. autometer sells a bulb pigtail that holds a 194 bulb and clips in like a stock bulb socket, only difference is that it has two wires so you can hard wire the lights and turn signals. On the price, you just gotta shop around for the best deal

I`m using a th350 manual reverse with a brake, converter s a 9.5 and supposed to be a 3,500 but we`ll see what it is this weekend hopefully. So far I have not gotten used to using the button, but it won`t take long I guess, I did a T brake launch at 2,000 and the response from the car was instant....very different from using a loaded chassis on the launch!

aha! so those gauges didn't look like that when you bought them eh? Where did you get the "white plastic frame" (or is that the stock gauge cluster you mean?), and the outer bezel?

That's what I was thinking, buy them, cut the holes in *some plate of choice*, then push them into place and tada! I figured you'd have to shoehorn them into place with some kind of mounting hardware..

yes the gauges look just like they do know when you buy them, there is a retainer that bolts to the rear of each gauge. The frame I used is the stock cluster frame with all of the stock gauges removed, printed circut board, plexi glass and metal trim bezel. then gutted basically to accept the new ones, also the outer bezel is the stock one opened up by a grinder to accept the aftermarket gauges. shoehorn is a good word to describe the job!
