Hello,

I have a 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z, hard-top, 350 TPI, 4 speeds automatic (with B&M megashifter), 2.77 9-bolts Borg-Warner rear end, 65 000 original miles, power windows/mirrors/doors/hatch, Toyo Proxess FZ4 P245/50R16 all around tires. The A/C been deleted, the smog/A.I.R. was deleted, holley fuel pump (only to replace the original one, did not bump the fuel pressure or anything after that), engine running on 5W30 synthetic Mobil 1 oil and that's all. I don't think you could say these are modifications. Everything else is stock (even have Delco filters all around and ignition)

We have a drag racing competition held only 1 time a year around here (yes we don't have any race track at all around here... Sad...).

It's my 3rd time drag racing in my life (1 time each year) and it's the first time with this car.

They were 203 people racing in different categories, and we were about 50 in the street category.

I finished 2nd! Man, I wasn't believing it, until I received 100$! Not that much, but it paid my inscription, the fuel and some beers after!

But what I wanted to know is what you think about my times?

It's a 1/8 track and when you make a reaction of less than .500, you make a red light. It's also bracket racing style.

If you have any tips to get a little better times next year with not investing any cash or not much go for it!

Here are all my 7 time slips in the first to the last run. The first 2 are only try out:

Won second place? How about runnered up or lost in the final round.

Consistancy is pretty good but not great for 1/8 mile racing. Reaction time needs work. Since your timing system is still using the old .500 perfect light, you need to get your reaction times into the .5xx or low .6xx range. One thing you can do to improve your reaction times is to deep stage. That's when you roll far enough into the beams to turn off the prestage light. That will increase your reaction time but will also increase your chance of red lighting.

Some sticky tires will help keep the 60' times more consistant. If your "street class" doesn't allow slicks, pick up some Blizzack snow tires. They have a soft compound and work well for traction.

like he said, work on your react, and if your consistantly running 9.20's, don't dial on a 9.15. 5 hundreths is alot to give up in bracking racing. Pick a spot on the tree when launching. I don't footbrake, but when I did a few times, I had to leave when the second yellow was going out. that put me around the .510 .520 range. congrats on the runner up!

Oh gee. I didn't even notice he was dialing in 9.15 and running 9.20's. That's too far under especially for 1/8 mile racing. Your 1/8 mile ET should be tighter than a 1/4 mile ET.

I could see dialing .20 on the first round but when the car ran a .277, I wouldn't have dropped the dial to .15 on the next round. When it ran a .22 and a .30 on the next 2 rounds, you can see a .15 is far too low. Although you never broke out on any of your rounds, I'm amazed you were able to go rounds. Your opponents must have been even worse.

It's hindsight now but you should have just left the 9.20 dial on the car for every round. You probably still would have lost the last round but it would have been closer.

Thanks for the tips guys, I didn't know what to dial since that day was weather wize, I tought I could do better a little so I've put 9.15... Oh well, I'll know for next time! Thanks!

just work on your reacts. Thats where your giving away everything. Lets say I'm dialed in a 6.75 and your dialed in on a 9.20. You cut a .750 react, and I cut a .520. Even if you run dead on a 9.20, all I have to run is a 6.98 to get there first and win. see how important reacts are?

Next time I'll be sure to dial near the times I do, bring some sticky tires and work to launch faster.

Do you think that with sticky tires I'll be able to get better times too?

Your 60ft should be better with sticky tires. depends on how bad you were spinning on how much tires will help you. Run slicks if you can, otherwise I would run the Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials JEGS High Performance - Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial Drag Tires

The only time I hooked was with the 1.985 60ft... Every other 60ft times I spun a little
