Track racing a 91 bird

I am not loaded on money, but i am willing to fab parts that can be fab'd, trim parts, and all of that jazz. However, how would i go about setting up a good track car. I have a 305 TBI stock and i dont feel like dragging it. I have got no clue on how to setup a good track car. But i am willing to trust all of your expertise (please no criticism from you drag racers only). There is a track near me and its pretty good, plenty of S-curves and u-turns and all of that. I know that suspension is a big thing to deal with in track driving. I have also noticed many muscle cars out there runing it and cornering nicely. Im sure they put plenty of money into theres but im trying to get away with a smaller dent out of my pocket. So i need a car capable of reaching 120's, and accelerating very fast around controlled turns. I need a LOT of help. Any thing other than what i have ehre is new information so dont feel shy if you dont think you have much to add.

First, I would suggest getting some seat time before doing any mods. Autox is the cheap way to learn the basics and are in most areas locally. If you can afford to get instruction at your local road race track that is also good. Hang out at F-Body Road Racing and Autocross Forums (Powered by Invision Power Board) (F-body Road Race and Autox Board) and get some good info and pointers there. Road racing is highly, highly addicting, gotta warn ya!

I would not worry about speed at all as a newb, that will come as you get the techniques. That last thing you need as a beginner is a fast car, trust me!
