Who would be the "BANK" & hold all the money? Who would drive? The drivers on pinks have more talent than most on this forum.

driver

maybe we need to post this up on that local board too. find a group of local people near the track who can put this togeather and find a driver who can test/tune with the car.

it would be great if the vette board used a tpi based car to start from. although I would never expect them to keep the tpi for a race like that it would be pretty cool to see what they come up with in the very end as well as a thirdgen.org comes up with in general.

now we need to come up with a list of specific parts needed for a planned combo. and we should have some way of keeping the specifics of the eng. a bit more hush hush. maybe a private board like the old diy prom board was?

My offer to drive still stands. I have been a dragracer for 14 years. Many wins and a track championship under my belt. I am not the greatest thing since coke in a can, but I can easily handle a 10 second car.

If that happens, someone neutral would have to decide where to put me. Either on the c4 vette project or the tgo project. I am loyal to both. If I have to choose sides it would be tough. I would rather let you guys decide my team. My feelings won't be hurt either way.The c4 guys feel that my mod status makes me a third gen guy. However, I currently do not actually own a third gen. The end result benefits charity, so it is all good.

I appreciate all the support. I am trying to steup a couple of sponsors. I am not sure if this is going to be done before this season is over but it will definitely happen. Now it is up to the rest of the people on here whether it will say TGO.org on the side. I would love for it to happen but I need some more support.

Just explain the benefits of having your name on a highly rated show for 20 minutes and how it might be a worthwhile investment.

I agree that this should be easily done with the number of members here. Clearly it would cost more in the long run to piece together a bunch of old parts than to buy good parts new. My suggestion would be this..everyone who would like to donate specific parts that mey be redundant(3 350 blocks, 3 forged cranks..just an example) instead list and sell them on ebay and donate the money to the cause. If someone has a sound third gen body then use that for the roller. Give a certificate and 8x10 of the car with the TV personalities(autographed) to each member who contributes showing that they supported the cause(wouldn't cast hardly anything). I'd be in for a few bucks atleast. Did you bother to ask them about what the show might contribute? It could be that they help with transportation or the like, couldn't hurt to ask.

This idea will work if it's consolidated across with a Mustang forum so that there's a level playing feild, in other words the cars have to be built close to the same so we don't have what occured on the first episode with the beetle and the CRX. I think this is an excellent idea, just the other day I saw a commercial for a Pinks episode where a third gen Camaro was running but have yet to see the episode, hopefully someone hasn't beat us to the punch. Someone needs to pitch this idea to a Mustang forum. PS. 355 GTA I also race at Edgewater and actually live 30 mins from you, I'de be willing to help on this project if at all possible.

you may wanna try Ford Mustang | Muscle-Mustangs.com - Ford Mustang Forums and Message Boards

i already posted a thread to see if anybody was interested in a race on pinks and that some people on TGO were trying to build a car and that they wanted to havea pretty fair race and the car would be sold for charity at the end. so i guess ill wait to see if i get posts and then we can all arange some means of communication togeter

For the record, I would bet it would not work in the end. Not because of the money, but the logistics. Where to keep the car, who will work on it, tow it to the track, pit crew etc. Getting money is usually easier than getting physical commitments.
Hell, I'd donate .80 Cents. I'd even donate $10. If I knew for a fact that this thing is set in stone I might even be able to rummige up $20. I say send out a MASS PM to ALL members explaining the situation, linking them to the thread, and requesting a charitable donation. Someone who is trusted should set up a Paypal account just for this cause. Then keep us updated on fundings and sponsors, also on the status of the race car. I wish I lived closer, and I wish I had alot of money cause I sure as hell would pay for this thing top to bottom if I could afford it. I LOVE the idea. THIRDGEN.ORG plasterd on the side of a drag third gen that gets 20+ minutes of fame on PINKS would be damn near the coolest thing ever!

Get those sponsors and donations rollin' everyone! Good Luck, can't wait to see this thing in full blown progress!

EDIT:I would also advise 87'TA or someone else to also post this in their RACING Board. It seems it would get more attention there.

this is an awsome idea. i only get baisic cable, it would be 20$ more a month to get speed. i would be willing to put one months worth of cable toward this project. so i pledge 20$ if this gets off the ground.

I agree your not going to get a car built on that site...

Stangnet is huge but doesnt have a lot of hardcore racers. But then again size matters when talking about man power and donating money.

Corral is a large site too with more racers on it than Stangnet. This would have people with nohow as well as the numbers you would need for donations and building the car.

Hardcore5.0 is a racing site, that the guys would most likely have the talent, and parts to build something. But the site has low numbers, and a lot of those guys only really care about making their cars fast.

Its an interesting idea and could work if you approached the right people, got the stuff set in stone, and got enough money to build it! Its going to be hard to find guys to build a project car if they have their own projects, but you might get lucky...

Id probably donate to both funds as I dont care either way. Its not a heads up race so building one car faster and one slower makes no difference.

Turbo's do wonders!!

I like this ideal and I could donate some money. But in a previous post someone said it would cost around 20k to compete i'd have to disagree. We have the car, We would need a transmission ( used turbo 400 or powerglide ) $500, rearend (used 12 bolt of ford 9 inch) $500, 406 sbc ( I have the block I could donate) engine internals ( $1000) << some used/new/donated, get a sponser to donate some heads and a board member to do port work, a nice big blower cam ($300), some turbo headers and some decent turbo's off of ebay ($2000). Intake and big carb set up for a blow thru application can also be used ($800). Odds and end stuff piping, exhaust etc. etc. ($800) All of that adds up to under 6k. We could probrobly get alot of the stuff from board members and sponsers. I know some of the prices are a little low but you'd be surprized what kind of deals you can get if its for a charity. The way I see it if we can build the engine up to around 400 hp and if the compression is low enough we could run 10-14 psi which would almost double the hp say 700 hp. strip the car and get the weight down to around 3000 lbs and i'd say it would be at least a low 10 sec car. This is resonable and a high compression engine with a 200 shot or more of nitrous would probrobly be even cheaper. I'm not a expert on engine building or turbos so don't flame me too bad i'm just saying the car doesn't have to be super realiable or be driven every day or a track car every weekend it just has to make a few runs and not break while doing it. If we do loose to another forum at least our car is going to a good cause!

Thats just my , hope we can get this thing going!

Remember if your going to auction it off... it has to be more than just 5 passes and its toast. If thats the case your going to make no money off it, and the charity wont see any nice benefit. I think for cheap you could build a reliable race car off used parts! As I stated in the post on the Mustang board, my friend stock block, crank, rodded 308 with old school iron heads, big cam, and carb went 9.98 on a 180 shot. Car has some money in a good valve train, suspension and such, but the rest is pretty cheap.

Also its PINKS... they allow you to run with handicaps, so even if the car isnt a 9 second car, the race will end up "fair". Also there wont be soo much heated hatred as the cars wont be going home to a guys house, but put on Ebay and everyone wins, more or less!

there could be a battle of the forms on pinks. if we could get stangs.net and 2 or 6 more and have a tournament it would be the highest rated pinks shows ever. and the sponsors would give even more because they have the chance to be on two or three different very high rated episodes.

i am just throwing out ideas because there is a lot of different forms out there

There was also a third gen that raced against the HardcoreRacing Mustang, it won by elimination. Still isn't a forum built car. I never heard anything more about this either, I have someone willing to do a cage for the car as a donation and was willing to donate some time and money, I guess it hasn't materialized.

So wheres the mass PM for the donations? I think that would really get thingsgoing for you. I would love to donate a bit of cash to see Thirdgen on TV, and I dont see why the sponsors wouldn't either.

Have you gotten any local suport yet?

Why not come up with a plan of what parts you will need to be donated? Then the members could donate what was needed. Whatever isn't could be purchased with the donations.

I think a NA 406 and glide would be the way to go, should be easy enough to get into the mid 10's with the right parts.

I`m a paint and body man

I also have a 9" housing that I didnt use on my car but it would have to have the brackets put on it. i have the stock posi 10 bolt that came out of my car that has those brackets needed.

I have a Th400 that needs built and I`m sure if I looked around the shop I could find more parts. I`v never seen pinks, is it bracket racing? Cool idea if you can get it off the ground. I also have a big shop if needed complete with welders, benders and anything else to build cars. I have some top fuel guy`s next door that know how to set up drag cars. Someone needs to build a list of whats needed and whos needed.
a car can be built in about 7 days if there`s enough people and the parts are there.
