Looking good. Still on track to get the BBC running in the car on time?

Interesting. They changed the design. I wish my Ed Quay's were more like that.

To get the equal length, my #6 cylinder tube wraps over the frame rail then goes down behind the #8 tube. In the above picture, #6 goes straight down and #8 goes down then wraps around under the car. That looks like a nicer way to do it since you don't have a tube running over the top of the frame rail which prevents me from dropping the engine down lower. I wonder how much room is above the #2 tube for a mini starter. I can't get my outboard starter bolt out without taking the headers off. You can see all my flanges are cut so each pipe is seperate. That's the only way I can get them in. I currently don't use the header evac tubes and just have caps over the pipes.

Now you need to get them coated but I'd do trial fits first to make sure none of the tubes need to be modified. You don't want to go hammering tubes after they've been coated.

I now have an exhaust system under my car. I shortened the collectors and installed two 4" mandrel elbows to bring the pipe out towards the rockers. On each side now is Magnaflow polished stainless race mufflers. (pics later) It added a bit of weight, maybe 30 pounds at the most, but I had to bring the decibel level down. Even to just fire the car up I needed ear plugs.

Scrolling back and forth to compare all the pics, it looks like my primary tubes are longer. My collectors are not coated and they were discoloring from the heat. The discoloring stopped a few inches past the evac tubes. The shorter primary tubes would have helped me. My collectors ended right at the tranny crossmember.

Mine are also 2-1/4" x 4". I always like to joke about my headers. My primary tubes are the same size as most peoples exhaust pipes are

Stephen, That is a different header. The ones I sold you are for a motor that uses plates and has been lowered and moved back in the chassis. I had a set like the ones 87 TA has also.

Here are pics of the engine bay, I think it turned out real well..
Pay no mind to K-Member as its leaving soon for a Tubular.
seems like the master cylinder may be leaking Not sure though - that will screw all my new paint up....
I pulled brake pedal out and welded new pin on for use with manual cylinder - wish I had known that years ago, but my legs are conditioned to it now.
Pulled 3" flowmaster off - I will be selling that..

Stephen: If you could get some pics off that exhaust setup it would be great, As for getting the headers coated - that may be my hold up, I need engine to test fit and beat up first, but once I have it I am not going to want to wait three weeks to fire it.

Now I need to find a trailer and get the Dakota ready - hope the huge 3.9L can handle it...

To save bandwidth, here are 5 thumbnails of the exhaust. The full size pics are available on my web page gallery.

I still haven't decided on turn outs/turn downs. The muffler exit is actually slightly to the inside of the rear tire and a good 2 feet from the tire.

Better than before. The ends of the collectors were roughly 3" off the ground. Coming out of the garage they dragged because of the grade into the alley. I trimmed about 3" off the ends of the collectors so that the elbow could clear my custom made tranny crossmember. The elbow was also trimmed shorter. The first 4" mandrel elbow is angled upward as it points out to the side. The second elbow then turns rearward. Those are considered big race mufflers (Magnaflow part number 14153) and the outside of the muffler body is about equal to the inside of the ground effects. The only point that may still get scrapped is the very bottom of the first elbow coming off the collector. Everything else is higher. Even the bottom of the muffler is higher than the lowest part of the ladder bar front mount.

In the second picture you can just see the exhaust hanger. I welded some 3/8" rod onto the muffler outlet and another piece under the car. There's a rubber exhaust hanger between the 2 rods holding up the back of the exhaust similar to most modern car exhausts. All I need to do if I want to run open headers is to pull the rubber hanger off and undo the strap clamp holding the exhaust to the collector and it all comes out. Open headers in less than 5 minutes.

Thanks Stephen, I will be doing something like that when this is all done.
I have a 2.5" cowl hood - This should all fit under that right?
The victor is only maybe an 1" taller than my SB victor - but not sure how much taller the block itself is..

Also update: Machinest called, Short block is done - Still waiting on heads, ordered Jesel shaft rockers - new part for AFR's.
Also head bolts were ordered. Leaving not much more - still undecided weather I am going trans brake or not yet, would like to save the $400 , but trans is out so this would be the time.
Also need to pull Superstreetfighter from fathers Camaro and switch out with my Streetfighter.
