Camaro/Firebird 1/4 Tests

Hey guys, I though this article was very interesting. It was a test between a 305 and 350 both 1LE cars. The 350 with 3.23 gears ran 14.3, and the 305 turned a 14.8 with 3.42 gears. The part I found strange was when they said 1/4 times would not have even been close if the 350 had the 305's 3.42 rear. It makes you think why GM didnt have the 3.42's for the big brother. The other articles are also pretty cool.

Interesting find there.

I cannot see there being more than a tenth or so difference between 3.23 and 3.42 gears though...

more power from the 350 with a lower gear gets all that weight moving alot faster. we picked up half a second in our super stock 68 camaro by switching from 4.56's to 4.88's, it allowed the engine to get to the rpm it made all it power sooner

Ya but tpi is different. You want to keep it in its powerband. So anything over 3.42's for a 350 is over kill.
