Quest for the 12.99 ET update

ok guys i broke the 13s this past summer now im shootin for 12.99

the best et so far is a 13.71@99

heres my mods since then

Lakewood Lift Bars in the rear
Jegster Torque Arm
Jegster Driveshaft loop

Pete Jackson Gear drive
old TBI heads worked to the MAX full port/polish with three angle valve job 1.94/1.50 valves
MSD 6AL spark box

im thinking about stepping up from a .452/.465 cam to a .509/.528 lift cam

what do you think guys??? oh btw its a 305 (no im not going to a 350 )

You do not say what gears or tires you have.I would run 3.73's or 4.10's with a drag radial or slick to start if you aren't all ready.I would take off the lakewood traction bars since they aren't doing anything with that jegster torque arm.Frame connectors would help you get a few more HP to the rear wheels.I would stick with the cam you have since you have stock heads, but you might see if you can try a buddies 650 DP.Full length headers with a 2.5 exhaust dumped before the axel would help get you closer also.Even with all of that I still think you would be in the low 13's.You might be able to do some weight reduction and maybe move the battery to the trunk and get a 12.99 from there.

100hp shot of nitrous would help !

otherwise - try 3.73 or 4.10 ratio in rear end with posi traction differential - slicks - cutouts to open exhaust at track

and mucho weight reduction -I never got out of 13's with my 305 - but again I never tried hard enough before using nitrous

Well, you've made it hard for yourself to hit 12s by using those cylinder heads. Good luck!

time to pick up a set of 416 casting heads or 081's...416 were available on the early lg4's and l69's...081's could be had on the lb9's. seriously...the tbi heads you have suck...even in there ported form...

go to the link in my sig to see how i went 13.03 @ 103mph...let me tell you, 13.7 is a FAR way away from 12.9's.

You are probably 7 mph away from your ET goal. It will be hard to get 7 mph from little things, a 100 shot of nitrous would stick you there for sure. Sounds you have a strong running 305 though!

Very true, if he wants to go consistantly well into the 12's I think he needs some more mph, but 7 might be optimistic.

Agreed . Are there any 305'ers running the L31 Vortec heads? I think that would be a great small valve/port cylinder head with a decent camshaft and some compression.

i know of a guy in my (relative) area that has a 305 with vortec heads that runs 12.8's with a relatively large cam and lots of work done to the heads...runs 11.9's or so on a 125 shot...

the heads i posted above flow just as well as the world products heads do. i would suggest getting a set of 416 casting heads and porting and polishing those up...they are gonna be much cheaper in the long run, becuase it will take the same amount of work to get the s/r torquers to perform as well as you'd like too.

I'd just do it right the first time and get a set of aftermarket aluminum heads.

it's gonna be hard to get the aluminum aftermarkets to perform as well as you'd think on the little bore of the 305, and the 416's with a home port job is only a fraction of the cost.

trick flow makes a smaller 180 cC head that is designed for 283-350 motors... you could look into those if you have some money to spend.

but portin out some other heads will be good as well

hell even the L98 vette heads would be sweet.. with small combustion chamber, it will be great with a 305

the l98 heads and the trick flow heads are not optimal for the smaller bore becuase of the size valves and the spacing betweent them. yes, the combustion chamber is 58cc and the valves are only 1.94/1.5, but the placement puts them really close to the bore walls and you will see more problems than it's worth because of valve shrouding.

a stock 1.84/1.5 valve combo would be much better because it will allow more air to flow around the valve and into the cylinder. do a polish job on the valves; this is very easy, you can do it at home by putting the valves into the chuck of a drill, place the drill on a vice, turn on then polish with an emory cloth.

have the machine shop do a good 3 angle valve job on the stock seats AFTER you've done a little bowl blending with an electric die grinder and some carbide bits. you will see much more gains by doing this than anything else at this point.

and for the record, i called trickflow and asked them about their 58cc combustion chamber heads and they said they are optimal for a mild 350.
