Saturday at the strip

Went up to Redding CA to have a fun night of drag racing at the street legal drags, clash of the imports night, but... All I got to do was 1 burnout Ye old alternator belt throwing issue has raised it's ugly head again. It flew off durring the burnout and they shut me off. Parts house was already closed and my backup belt wasn't any good either. I'll be ready for the next time though

Lots of people were having problems that night breaking things or having problems including a friend of mine. His fuel pump gave out durring the second run. Another friend that went up had great luck for the first time to the drags. Went from a first run of 14.70's @ 101 to 13.42 @ 105 with a peg leg street tire car. So at least 1 out of the group had some good fun hehe.

So finally I cool down enough to actually go sit in the bleachers and watch some of the other races going on. Couple of surprising cars out there including a quad that ran 15.2 beating what sounded like a stock turbo eclipse. There was also a total grocery getter chevelle wagon in primer black running low 11's. Other cars that looked and sounded the part for 11's were running 13's Next time... next time...

Wagons are always cool. I'd love an early 2 door Chevelle wagon.

Throwing belts is an alignment and tension problem. I run a 5 rib serpentine belt from the crank to the alternator. Water pump is electric. I was having problems throwing the belt in the waterbox. I finally ran a straight edge across both pulleys to find the alternator pulley was sitting crooked because the pivot mount bolt was bent. A new mount bolt and spacers to move the alternator out more for a good alignment solved my thrown belt problems. I spin the engine over 7000 rpm and don't throw the belt now.

I had gone through the straight edge alignment the last time this was all happening but since then changed out the alternator. Also, I was running the big Moroso pulley but now it's back to the stock small pulley. Really want/need to switch over to the 5 rib belt setup. Last night on the street it flew off again (using a different belt) at around 6,000... knew it might so I didn't do anything silly till I got close to home hehe.

Had a look at things tonight and the alternator was a bit off. Moved things around again and things are looking better. Little late to go for a test drive though
