L98 first time at the track
Well I went to the track for the first time on Friday night - the 1/8 mile strip at Natural Bridge. I was slightly disappointed with my times. Here's one of my best:
TREE SPEED: 0.500
DIAL-IN: 0.00
REACTION: 0.832
60 ft 2.190
330 ft 6.247
MPH 71.77
660 ft (1/8 mile) 9.662
My worst run was a 9.9, but I ran a 9.6 three times. I was spinning quite a bit every time on the launch, and I was also running very hot, at or above 220 degrees the entire time.
I was hoping for a little bit better times, but I beat a few cars there. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Not bad for a first time. Work on not spinning too bad off the line. Run it again after some mods and let us know the results.
The only mod that will really help out performance wise is the afpr, and the shift kit.
Can someone convert that run to a 1/4, I could help him out a little bit more.

I have a 180* thermostat, but the stock fan switch, so I was running above 220 most of the time. Do you think that was hurting me at all?

Heat is a significant factor in drag racing, as any racer will tell you. For example I was at the track last wednesday, I was trapping 96-97 all evening until it cooled down and I had 30 minutes to pop my hood and let it cool.. bang ran the time in my sig and continued trapping 98-99 the rest of the night.
Make sure to pop your hood and let it cool while you're waiting to run again. You could even ice down your plenum if you wanted to go that far.

Formulas for converting 1/8 to 1/4 mile are here:
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=293804
9.66 in the 1/8 works out to 15.07 in the 1/4. Working on your launch, keeping the engine temp below 200 degs, and cooling your plenum before each pass should into the 9.5 sec range or better in the 1/8.

I ran 15.2 @ 89.6 with a 9.7 1/8th. 2.14 60' Make sure to keep the car cool and really work on the launch. As I launched my fans kicked on, temp was at 240

Think of drag racing as dunking a basketball, gotta build those calves (rear suspension) before you can "leap" (pun intended) off the line.
