Will this get me to the 8's

I have an 89 GTA that runs 9.32 in the eighth. It is pretty well stock except AFPR, air foil, and Flowmaster catback. That time was also with a stretched TV cable so it was not shift firm at all. I just bought a 2500 stall and I am planning on replacing the TV cable when I put the stall in. Does anyone think this will break me into the 8's. I also have a set of hooker headers(2460) that I am going to build a Y-pipe for and put them on soon. I am building a new motor right now but I want to see how fast I can get the stock motor. What does everyone think. If it will not what will it take. The headers are not going on with the stall and I am replacing the "50 series" muffler for on that flows only 10% less then a straight piece of pipe, so that is a little extra power. Thanks for any reply.

depending on how well your car 60fts right now, but with a lil more convertor and sticky tires it should help get you a few tenths. i have never owned a tpi car unfortunately but from what ive heard is the intake is restrictive and has its rpm limits. i would try the simple free porting and polishing to allow more flow seeings you have a afpr and some exhaust mods. this is just my $.02. i had a 2500 stall in my car for awhile and it worked like a champ, launched real nice.

Thanks for the reply. I do have very sticky tires. They hook real good at the track. I also forgot to post that I have some mild port work done to the plenum. I did that when I put on the AFPR. I also forgot to mention my fuel pressure is set at 48 psi. That psi gave me my biggest gain at the track. I went from running 9.52 at 42 psi(stock) to running 9.32 at 48 psi. That really surprised me. It made a huge difference. I am hoping I will see the 8's because theoretically by using the eighth to quarter mile conversion chart I will be running 13's I know this is not completly accurate but it is nice to think that.

this also may not be true but ive heard that in the 1/4 that every tenth in your 60 ft is 2 tenths in the 1/4 so getting it to hook and get out of the hole quicker will help you reach the 8s. also you might try taking a lil weight out of it.

I have dropped alittle weight, I am down to 185. Oh you mean the car. LOL. I have AC delete pulley and all the ac eqipment is gone. That is the biggest weight loss I have. Others are now back seat, no trim, take the spare out at the track. Not to much more I can lose for now. It is a daily driver. When I get my truck I will be able to save a lot of weight. Thanks for the input.

you can also try the front sway bar will not handle great but works good at the track plus its weight and its FREE! and when you get home put it back on just 6 bolts.

You're running some good times already for a basically stock GTA. I think the converter and new tv cable will get you close to 8's, maybe drop a tenth or two. You will definately be there once you put the headers on.

Ya, you are the reason I am shootin for this so hard on the stock motor. I can not let you be the only one. Haha. I dont know, I hope I see the 8's but if not I will just have to be proud of the poor girl with 135000 hard miles on her. She runs strong.
