The new engine 2005
Good and bad news
All the parts I need are at least 3 weeks away
Both my cranks didn't pass a magnaflux for the HP level I'm at so a new crank is needed. I could probably still get them machined to use in more streetable engines. The price is the same for a 4" or a 4.25" stroke so I'm going to a 540. Eagle does not make a BBC externally balanced crank any more. They're all internally balanced.
All the new parts ordered for this build
Dart block 4.5" bore 9.8 deck - ordered
JE dome pistons (maximum compression ratio possible. Should be about 13.2:1 with my heads and no decking of the block) - ordered
Eagle H-beam rods - already have them
Eagle internally balanced stroker crank - ordered
Total seal top gapless ring set - ordered
Need a new SFI internally balance flexplate and balancer also. - stock item at the speed shop
I already have all the bearings and gaskets required for the build. I think the total cost for this build should be at least in the $7000 range and with all the other parts I have for the engine, heads, valve train, intake, carbs etc, the complete engine, including all the accessories such as ignition and headers, should be in the $20,000 to $25,000 range.
DD200 now puts an estimate at 813 hp at 6500 and 752 lb torque from 4500 to 5000. That's actually less hp than before but higher hp at a lower rpm. At 7500 it's still making 801 hp. Even bigger heads would make more power but that should be enough to carry the front wheels to the 60' mark if everything goes to plan.
No power adders!!
If all goes as planned I won't be able to make the 2 race weekends in July. We have one race weekend in mid August and the final race is a weekend in mid September. I should be able to make those races. Those are only the local races. If I wanted to travel, I could attend others but with an untested engine, that's not something I want to do this year.

I feel your pain on the short race season. Starting at the end of May and ending in the middle of September. I really hope that this works better for you than the last engine(s). With all new stuff it should.

Actually the only place I could travel to is Edmonton because it's an IHRA track. I'd easily be in the 9's in Medicine Hat and since it's an NHRA track, I don't have the proper qualifications to run in the 9's under NHRA rules. Looks like I'll have to get that chassis certification next year and maybe an NHRA competition license. We'll see how well this goes first.
Streetable? Maybe but not in this car. Although the engine may seem streetable the car sure isn't. Also with a 4 gallon fuel cell and running on alcohol I can't see getting much more than 10 miles on a tank of fuel driving conservatively. It sucks back at least a galllon idling in the garage for about 15 minutes.

Sounds like an awesome engine Stephen. Hopefully you will get many really good seasons out of this one.
