First time watching drag racing live...
The first time I was a kid (6) so that doesn't count.
It seemed most of the guys running were in the 10 sec. range.
12 sec. just seemed slow... I am sure it is different when you're driving. You didn't see any weight transfer or the engine get enormously louder.
The 8 and 9 second cars looked absoultely violent. Wheels up and wind contrails then a flash on the boards.
Gotta get my car ready...

Watching and participating are two different things. Even a 15 second car feels fast when you're driving.
I go up to the stands every now and then and listen to the spectators. Some of them say "I can do that". Getting behind the wheel is more than going to WOT when the light is green.
8 and 9 second cars with wheels up. Must have been Super Stock cars. They're always fun to watch.

I played pit beeotch for a year before I started racing myself so I was around all the guys learning about the game, seeing all the times different cars put up, some of the louder cars would never perform to the way they sounded, while some the quiter cars would just flat out fly, always gotta kick outta that. But I remember the first pass I made, felt like i had the bull by the horns, gonna throw down some crazy ET. Piucked up my ticket to see a 14.80 LOL!!! Totally different world on the track than watching, seems soo much faster when your making a run-unless you next to somebody that just flat walks your azz
Some people think I'm crazy, but I cannot stand to watch bracket racing-too boring. If I do watch it's only to take notes on who's running what and how much their baggin so I can build a stratagey. The Outlaws are fun to watch though (secretly they're my hero's -wheelies are waaycool jets get tiresome, wheelie cars are neat when they run at night throwin sparks, but the ones that take the cake are the Top Fuel and Funny cars.....now if you've never seen them in person....pack some tissue paper cuz your gonna have a mess in your pants

I also admit that watching bracket cars is boring. Unless there's something special I want to watch, the only racing I see is the 2 cars in front of me going down the track while I sit in the water box.
I have yet to witness any fuel cars locally. There's hasn't been a fuel car here since 1993. The closest I've seen to that is a top fuel Harley which was spectacular.
Once you experience any fuel cars racing, you'll want to see more is what I've always been told.

There was a Dodge Duster (or Aspen or something like that) that you could barely hear that knocked down consistent 12.10s Just one second quicker and you'd thought that thunder was what the competition was about. 10, 9, and 8 second cars didn't really get any louder than the 11 second cars, but we were about 200' down from the tree.
The most hilarious thing was seeing the Harleys race then watching the Haybusas. The jap stuff made the Harleys look like they were on training wheels. Then seeing the Harley guys rockin in the chair trying to shift gears ROFLMAO!
Based on the internet calcs you have to be doing about 120 or more to get into the 12s. The guys doing 120 were at least in the 10s. What gives?
How unruly is an 11 second stick car on the street? Can you drive it, or are you just tiptoeing all the time?

You can get into the 12s as low as 101-102 mph. 120mph in a well setup race car should get low 11s or even high 10s.

Hey, Trevor,
I'm aiming for a build a bit similar to yours. The only differences are a stick shift and hydraulic roller instead of solid. Have you raced your's. Where do your time slips fall?

jrg77,
Unfortunately I haven't had it to the track yet. Actaully, I am still waiting for the crank to get balanced. Check back in a few weeks or a month and I'll let your know how it does.
I hope when you say stick you don't mean your stock t5.

He has no A/C but it has radio and a full interior. No weight reduction accept a fiberglass hood. Its really a very tame street car.By uncapping the exhaust I mean that he has a full dual exhaust but right after his headers he has a spot on either side that he can unscrew some nuts and take some caps off that allow the exhaust to bypass the rest of the system. Meaning he is running open exhaust. He only looses about .2 in the 1/4 by running his full 2.5 dual exhaust, and thats with tailpipes exiting by the bumper.

Okay,
I just got back from trying out the daily driver. Started out 19.964 and ended up a 15.980. It is amazing what $15 in gas and a $25 ticket will get you.
I learned that
Yellow really means green.
Too much wheel spin picks up your speed, but not your E.T.
Too little throttle and the whole engine will shut OFF.
Might be time to save for some slicks and a clutch.
Concentration, observation and reaction are infinitely adjustable.
Would been helpful if I had some way to monitor my inputs off the line.
A tach that is mounted up high, or at least a high light would actually be better/safer.
I can't imagine what my Camaro will do when it is put together, but It will be a huge improvement over this.
