Sun / Racing Glasses

I was just curious as to what types or styles of glasses drag racers on here are wearing at the track?

Last year when I raced on friday nights we would run all of our time trials and eliminations in low light - dark conditions. This year, racing on saturdays, means time trials are made in sunlight, and eliminations are usually in low light - dark conditions. This is really messing with me at the tree. I was thinking about going with some of the amber "high definition" type driving glasses. Anyone have any comments on whether I should or not? If all else fails I can rock them at the local cruise spot, cuz they are just soo PIMP lol j/k

It's our Friday night racing that goes from sunlight to dark. TT's start at 4:30 p.m., eliminations at 7 p.m. The sun is behind the hills after about 6, but it stays light until 8 or later. If you win a round or two, it'll be dark when you run for sure.

I use dark glasses during the sunlight runs and amber after dark. Don't know how much difference it makes, but that's what I do.

Does your track use LED lights? Supposedly that reduces the difference vs. incandescent, but I still think the day to dark difference is significant (and frustrating).

Yeah, we switched to LED lights at the start of last season. I saw a little difference in them, but it wasn't too bad. I thought about going with an amber shield on my helmet, because it is such a pain in the @ss to get glasses on in there. But then you run into the fogging problems ect ect.

You should just sport some aviators. They may or may not help at the track but they will perform with the chicks

I used to wear regular tinted shades and my night time R/T would pick up ALOT once the sun set. Last year switched over to Oakly irredium (sp) lenses and lights stayed really consistent when starting during late afternoon and finishing after dark.

Crushed those this winter so bought another pair of Oak's with what I thought was same irredium lenses, but these are ierredium's on steriods!!! It really brings out the amber hues in eveything. Have'nt had any night action as of yet, but expect same results as last year....choppin down the tree weather the suns up or down!!

So you're taking the glasses off when it gets dark right?

Actually, it reminded me of this infamous line from the Blues Brothers:
