First time to the track.

60' - 2.129
330' - 5.733
1/8 - 8.686
MPH - 82.99
1000' - 11.227
1/4 - 13.367
MPH - 105.5

That was my best 1/4.. All my 60' times were from 2.1 to 2.3 something and my best MPH was 105.92. Hopefully I can get some 2.0 60' or better and get a little closer to 13.0.

It was about 50 degrees out so I wasnt hooking up great off the line and we were running into about a 5-10 MPH head-wind.

All in all I was pretty happy with my first time out.

Congratulations. That is very good for your first time out. You need to get those 60' times lower. I don't know what you have done to your car but some sticky tires like the Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials would be a good investment. Get some lower control arm brackets. !2's won't be far away. Good luck with your car. Allen

Tell us more about your car. You have an '88 Camaro with a '95 LT1 engine? What else have you done to the car?

Well the engine is a pretty much stock 95 LT1 out of a Firebird that was rebuilt after the Firebird was totalled. The only upgrades to the engine itself are LS1 injectors, upgraded radiator and fans and headers\catback and a cut-out. I also have 3.73's with a posi, adjustable traction bars, SFC's and a center force dual friction clutch. Other than that most everything is stock and it is full weight.

That's a very impressive trap speed for an internally stock LT1. It's good enough for high 12's with decent traction.

Thanks for jacking my avatar

to the original poster, welcome to the LT1 swap club, great times as well. Definitely get your 60' down and you'll be running low 13's easy.

not really. my old 93' 6speed Vette trapped 107.63mph with only a K&N filter and the mufflers cut off. ET was 13.32 and i believe the 60ft was a 2.14

the car was a fully loaded 40th anniversary model to boot, so there probably wasnt much weight difference

what rpm are you shifting that 6speed at? i personally found that you would lose a mph or 2 if you didnt shift right before redline (5700rpms)

I agree with IROCZZ3, as I've hit 12.9's with a 3900 lb car at 103 mph, 60' in the 1.78 range.

But with BBC torque.

And BBC weight...

I've got less torque than a lot of 383's out there, and certainly don't have any kind of an advantage over 400 SBCs. Plus the extra mass I'm pushing off the line.

Torque is a function of how much air/fuel you're getting into the cylinder to react against the pressure area of the piston crown and lever arm of the crank. As has been discussed in the HRM article thread, the lever arm is a bit player in this show. LT1's and LSx's are stars in the "get the fuel/air in & out" role.

And the 396 is the baby of the BBC family. Overweight cousin of the big inch SBCs.

With stall & traction (i.e., 60' reduction), the originator's car should be in the 12's. Easy.
