Front runner tires
I know this is only directed to a handfull of members but how well will a MT 29" front runner fit on a third gen?
I'm considering upgrading from the tiny 165R15 tires to a taller front tire for a couple of reasons. I want to increase my rollout and I need the chassis to sit up a little higher. I should be able to raise it at least 2" with the taller tires but will I have any clearence problems inside the fenders?

Stephen,
I ran a set of Moroso 7.60 x 15's on the front of mine for a while. They are 29" tall and while they fit, the upper wheel house will hit if you dump the brakes hard on the top end. Also, I did have to check the trailing edge of the wheel openning for clearance. Mine needed to have the corners bent in a bit to clear the tire.

Local speed shop didn't have any 29" tires so I bought the 27.5". They fit quite well. I'd still like to try some 29"s.
2 ET Fronts, 2 MT tubes for the slicks and a BG5000 filter. $600+ CAD. Race season must be getting close. My speed shop purchases are getting higher and that's with a racers discount. The average person just walking in to buy the same things would pay a lot more.

165R15 should be an 80 ratio. It depends on the brand. Some may be an 85 ratio. That would put them at 25.4" tall. The MT 27.5's are actually 27.3" tall according to their web site. That gives almost 2" more tire height so my chassis should now be 1" higher off the ground. I currently have them pumped up to 38 psi so they may be even taller now.
It looks like I have a bit more clearance now under the collectors. As soon as I back the car out of the garage I'll know if they're higher. Last time I rolled it out, I heard the collectors scraping as the car left the concrete and slopped down into the alley. Not much but just enough to know they touched the pavement.
MT also has a 28" front tire listed as 28" tall and the 29" is listed as 28.7" tall.

The front springs I run are the Moroso drag springs with one full coil cut off. You must check the upper clearance with the taller tires. I'd recommend that if you still have the plastic inner fenders in place, remove them as the tire can and has in the past been pulled off by the pinch and roll on the top end. No damage will be done to the car when the panels get pulled off but it sure gets the top end track crew's attn.
If you run the front end higher at rest it might not be an issue, but the rubbed off paint and matching grooves in the tires don't lie.
