Oil Change ?

On a car that see's little or no street use but alot of passes, how often do you change the oil? I used to use the car alot to go to shows and whatnot but lately it's been to the track and back once a week at most. I use Penzoil GT oil.

Any opinions and why?

Thanks,
Steve

i know some people who change their oil after every trip to the track, but that seems a little often. especially the people who are spraying large shots of nitrous, they seem to change their oil every week. I change mine every 3 months or so, and as long as you allow the motor to warm up fully and drive it more than 7 miles or so, i would assume all the excess moisture is being burnt off as well. just my .02

During the summer depending on number of rounds I went and how much street driving I do, it's pretty common for once a month just for my own sanity. This year I'm going to start having oil analyse done at every change to get a handle if that frequent is really necessary since $50/time gets pricey on top of all the other fees associtated with racing. Been using Mobil 1 fully systhetic 5W-30 spring/fall 10W-30 summer.

I guess if it sat around alot and did'nt get up to operating temps very often I'd be more inclined to change it for condensation sake. But in reality, I dont know if it's just a synthetic thing or what, but in the past I've gone 2 months between oil changes and it literally looks like I'm draining new oil, same thing with my monthly's.

As often as you can afford.

With the amount of alcohol washdown I get in the oil, I'd like to change it after every race weekend. It all depends how many rounds I go and how bad the oil looks. I now have a system 1 filter so I can take it apart for inspection at any time. An oil sample analysis would be nice around mid season to see how the bearings are doing.

If I change it every race weekend, normal oil works fine. It's not in the engine long enough that I need high end synthetic oils. If I had a sponsor paying for the oil then I'd use Torco or Royal Purple. I still need to ask my boss for oil sponsorship. I'd use our bunk Chevron oil and change it every weekend.

I don't have a particularly powerful engine, but I change once a year. This is with 100% PAO synthetic, of course. The engine was built in 1997; in 2003 when I had the heads off for porting, the hone marks were still visible. Oil pressure has never varied.

I haven't kept a good record of total runs, but it must have been close to a couple hundred last year alone. Probably won't be that many this year.
