Anybody build thier own trannys?
Hi, building a new th350 for my race car. There's a couple problems so far, can't find the brass thrust washers. The directions say to replace the plastic washers with brass or steel thrust washers. Another thing, to remove the seal on the high gear drum, I see a major oil leak here. Using a reverse pattern valve body with a protree brake. Just been foot braking the last couple of years, trying to get a more consistant light, since we're going to run the car in Pro & Super Pro this year. Thanks.

For ANY question regarding any race tranny problems/questions, do not hesitate to contact Steve Oldani.

He has more trannies running and winning at our track and ouot of state tracks than anybody else I know. Guy really knows his chit and is very helpful since he was a racer too. Quite a few of the hitter from IL run his junk as well
Just tell him Humper send ya

Hi guys, the reason I posted on here is the way the tranny will be set up is for racing only. I went to a tranny guy I know here in town. He had the brass thrust washers, also answered my question on the drum seal question. He said that when you leave out the drum seal, it releases the clutchs faster when power is removed. Guess I'll find out in a couple of weeks as our track opens April 2nd. Thanks.

I just got into tranny brakes 2 years ago and let me tell ya, once you run it, you'll wonder why the helll you did'nt install on sooner. Soo much easeir to adjust R/T per lane or how you react on any given day weather your fast or slow that day, and it lets the car react alot better since it's chasis is "neutral" before you let go of the button. I'll never go back!!!!!!!!!!

Understood, just making sure casual readers don't get the impression that a tranny brake is the way to go regardless of class.
Along with the benefits already stated, they can be a great way to find the weakest link in your drivetrain...

My son-in-law and I used to drive every other week end,the past two seasons. End of last season we drove the same car in two classes. He prefers pro class, so I run super pro. Kinda tuff running against the guys running a box, footbraking. Last race of last season I ran one of the younger guys [ buddy of mine] his 69 camaro dialed 5.83 against my 7.13. I had a 21 light against his 87, I ran a 13 with a 4 he ran an 85.with 8 He was mad for 2 hours. I'm 55 years old and not as sharp as I used to be, figure I can slide my thumb more consistant than move my foot. Plus we just used to put the car in drive and let the tranny do it all. It shifted about 5000 and went through the traps 5800, way below the peak power for the engine. Going to launch it 4000 and shift it at 6500 this year, or some where close to that. Should be in the 670 or so range. Went from a 4.56 to 5.38 in the rear 5000 stall trans break, 2 step, and proratchet with electric shifter. Ought to be fun.

IHI, you are RIGHT!! We have ran two weeks now with the brake. First week we had a head wind of 35 mph or better. My car matched my best time ever, even with the wind. Last Sunday, The track was greasy, they only sprayed it once all day. 60 ftrs was in the 1.50s all day with major tire spin. First week out I had several 1.43s 1.44s. Car carries the front about a foot and a half. They installed a new led tree this year, much to my liking. Helped my reaction times a bunch, son-in-law sees RED. Beat two dragsters last weekend and lost by .0017 in the 3rd round. Can't wait till we have the quick 16 weekend. They spray the track all the way down. May just get this old T/A in the high 6.80s.

Shaweeet!! Once you've tried it, it's hard to go back to footbrake Nothin like that instant hit!!!
You may have to lower the stagin rpm in the 2 step for your son,or some other things to slow him down on the tree. Cant go nowhere when you've got a red eye! We're in the same situation with the truck, think I've got the owner convinced to just buy a box and I'll run Top/Super Pro with it instead. He did'nt wanna pull the tranney to have the brake slowed down, so only other option is the delay box
Glad to hear everything worked out, it took me quite awhile before I felt comfortable with the button, whole life footbraking, it was different to control the car with a switch, but once you get hte hang of it your lights will be consistent all the way around!!
