Can my 10 bolt take the punishment of ET Streets?

Not sure if this is in the right section, but I searched for info on 10 bolts and et streets and didn't come up with much at all.

I have a stock 10 bolt with a TA girdle and stud kit. I spin too much on nitto NT555R's and had been considering BFG drag radials until someone mentioned getting a set of ET Streets. I want to get the most out of my Vigilante 2800 and lower my 60 foot time.

I know a handful of 6 speed owners that have torn up their rearends on these tires, but as for the automatics, I was told the 10 bolt would hold up pretty well.

Can anyone here help shed some light on this subject for me?

you're spinning hard on 555R's? you're going to have to give us some more information about your setup first, like what you run, 60's, etc. I'm running 12.8's with a 1.95 60' on 555R's and I don't spin a bit.

You can build up the 10 bolt to take more abuse but the tiny ring and pinion is still the weak link. I ran mid to low 11's with a beefed up 10 bolt with no problems.

It's not the traction that will hurt the diff but the shock load to the gears. Doing a high rpm clutch drop with an manual or a transbrake launch with an automatic is a quick way to break the diff.

Use whatever tires gives you the best traction. If you ever break something, then you'll know what needs to be upgraded.

You will probably be fine for awhile, as the automatic acts as a cushion and isn't as harsh as a manual...but I'd be prepared to rebuild it at any time

PS I still have a stock 10 bolt

ET Streets are by far the stickiest thing I've "seen" for the street so far, I love mine..

This is a result of a cushiony th350, before I got to 2nd gear..

How fast were you going when that happened? That must have been scary when the axle starting walking out on you! What did the car do?

I love carnage pics!

I was only going about 40kph (first gear, WOT) when the big bang happened.. I pulled over and got out and saw half the driveshaft on the ground.. Didn't know anything else was busted till we started pushing the car and the wheel started to come out.. ha ha.. When I got it home (via a flat bed) I noticed that the tranny was no longer in one peice either.. Good times..

The rear went first and took all his friends with him.. Ahh well, good excuse to upgrade..

Cheers,

I have seen a 10 bolt w/ 3.73s and a Torsen go low 11s on an LT1 355 car w/ a blower. 3400 stall on ET Streets. It took the abuse and never broke. Whined like a sumbitch but never broke...

It can handle it a lot better through and auto than a manual. Autos preload the gears and reduce the shock of launch...

i've got the original rear end out of my 86 z28 in my 98 Heads and cam ls1 z28 (narrower rear allowes for a little more tire/wheel clearance without pounding the fender wells in), and i've got about 30 passes on Hoosier QTP's 1.5-1.62 60' foot times and zero problems. Only thing not stock on the rear is the Jeg's girdle cover.

I put a small block together and put in the car for a customer car has a turbo 350 trans and stock rear with 3.73 and auborn posi and after maket axels I think thay are superior axles with the c clips told him to only run car on motor. A year has gone by with many nitrous hits on slicks cars best et to date is10.32 at 135mph car has more in it I say this because the 60ft times are 1.5-1.6. As a side note I could not get my stock rear to live in 13 sec car back in 95. Maby some people are lucker than others. Its sort of like gambling.

I would not trust a 10 bolt with a stick shift car at all

just my personal experience

c clips are downright dangerous, i gouged a 5 foot line into the dragstrip once when i broke an axle shaft and the whole thing came out of the axle housing on my old ten bolt. Thank the Lord it didnt hapen at high speed.
