recommend a quick release steering hub?
Can anyone recommend a quality quick release steering wheel hub? I was looking at wilwood's online and saw that it was around $35. I know I will have to weld it to the column shaft as well. Also would a non-tilt column be necessary or could the tilt column still be retained?

I'm not too sure how well they work with a tilt column. The end of the shaft will need to protrude past the housing cover in order to push the release button. I ditched the tilt column to save weight and found I couldn't get in and out of the car over the door bar without the tilt. That's when I decided I needed a removable steering wheel and getting in and out of the car over the bars is easy now.
I've also completely stripped down my steering column to save even more weight. There's pictures in the gallery on my web site. The upper part of the shaft is 3/4" which is what most of the removable couplers weld to. My coupler was made by Bicknell

My quick release is made by BRP (see above link). The steering wheel itself is just a cheap autoparts store wheel that I liked. You don't need any special adaptor to mount the wheel since the quick releases use the same 3 bolt mount pattern as all aftermarket steering wheels. Bolt the aftermarket steering wheel to the slip off collar. Weld the mount to the steering shaft. Slide collar onto mount. Done. Make sure steering wheel is straight before welding.
If you want to use a factory steering wheel then you're on your own on how to mount it.

This is what mine looks like. You don't need a real expensive quick release unless you're trying to keep a factory look.
