NHRA rollcage rules??
Hey guys, I have been looking on the internet and on this board and I can't find what I need. I know at 11.99 I need a rollcage and it can be bolted in and still be legal. But what I can't find is how many point cage I need. Now can I put in a 4-point with a crossbar and have it be legal? And also for anyone wondering, when you run a 13.99 or better you need a driveshaft loop. Also you don't need a helmet with anything slower then a14.99. I never knew any of this so I thought I would share. Thanks for anyone who can help me with my question..

By going to the link posted by Dude and seeing the answer to this question: "How do I get a Rulebook?"
Since this is a racing question, I'll move it from General to over there. Then Stephen can say, "Get a rulebook."

Hmm, you have to have a loop running faster than 13.99? Even with out slicks??
Might be in for some trouble tomorrow at the IHRA et finals... But then again i've been running 8.5's all year in the 1/8 and noone has said anything or even looked.
Oh well, from what the tech guy says at my home track, (eddyville; considered by many to be one of the tougher tech places around) cordova's tech is a joke anyways.

Yes, the cage can be bolted in needs to be 6"x6" 3/16" thick. 12.00 and under require no cage unless it is a convertible. You need a driveshaft loop with slicks. Snell helmet 13.99 and quicker. and other ovious saftey equipment - good brakes, no broken glass, no leaks etc.

By the rulebook you actually only need a 5 point cage with the driver door bar but everyone puts in the passenger bar also to make it a 6 point.
A 6 point bar which is the main hoop, 2 rearward bars and 2 door bars is called a roll bar. It's not considered a cage until you add in a halo bar and a-piller bars.
There is no exact location for mounting points since there are hundreds of different cars but you'll have a hard time bolting the plates through the floor if they're in the correct position. A 6 x 6 plate doesn't have to be mounted flat. The hump in the floor behind the front seats is the best place. Position the plate on top and weld across the top. Heat the plate and bent it down over the hump and weld the rest of it to the floor sheetmetal. This gives the bars a secure mounting point with 2 feet of weld compared to the weld around a 1-3/4" pipe welded to sheetmetal. All 6 mointing points need the 6 x 6 plates welded to the floor.
The 6 point bar is legal to 10.00 as long as the floor and firewall are unmodified. If you've relocated the firewall or cut out the floor for accessing the tranny then a 6 point bar is only good to 11.00. Cutting out a floor section to do rust repair and welding in a new section is not considered a floor modification. Tubbing a bar is also not considered a modification.
IHRA rules are the same except they don't require a roll bar until 11.49. Even a 12 or 13 second car will perform better with a 6 point bar but it will add about 70 pounds to the car.
