tire pressure for a regular street tire

what should i run it at for a regular 235/60/15 radial street tire? all i have ever dealt with is drag slicks and drag radials. i don't think that the same psi will work though

I ran the same size tire years ago when I first got going with no power. The tires were a really hard compund radial tire that did'nt seem to lose any rubber even after the first season of drag racing and lots of street driving, think they were made of black concrete or something.

Anyways, with those tires I found optimum to be 18psi with a killer burnout. Any higher or lower and my 60' went away. Tried the tour around the water box too with a mild spin of the tires to get the sand/crap off the tires and it would not hook.

Every tire will take a little something different so your just gonna have to play.

On tubeless tires you should run the recomened psi that is on the sidewall.

Actually the pressure on the sidewall is maximum pressure when fully loaded.

You want enough pressure so that the tire makes a conatact patch across the entire tread. Too much pressure and the tire rides on the center of the tread. Too low and the center of the tread cups up off the ground.

Radial tires have very stiff sidewalls and don't roll over like a slick or bias ply tire. Normally they run better with more pressure than lower. I wouldn't take a radial below 28 psi and most run better at 35 psi.

Start at 32 psi and raise/lower 1/2 pound at a time until 60' times don't improve.

thanks guys, that's a huge help. i am going to Maryland International Raceway this weekend for the NSCA race there. i won't be able to race with the organization as i don't have the $125 entry fee. my father is the chaplain for the org. and i can get in the track for free for the weekend. but i can run the street car deal on friday night called Midnight Madness. $15 entry fee! i can definetly handle that! i have been around drag racing all my life, but this is the first opportunity to race this car. since the track is 652miles from my house, i don't really know how many runs i will get in before eliminations. i am extremely excited about the opportunity though.

Don't worry if you don't go rounds. Just remember to have fun. If it's run like a normal race, you'll usually get 3 time trial runs before the first round of eliminations. Then you try to dial the car in for the first round. If you lose, you can probably get test and tune passes between the rounds. This gives the other cars that are still competing a chance to cool down and it keeps cars going down the track even if they're not in the eliminations. It all depends on car counts and track policy.

well, from what i am to understand, car counts are enormous, so i don't know about the test-n-tune between rounds. this is a very special weekend though. i have had many opportunities to run the car before, but because my dad has a drag racing ministry and travels 75% of the year, he has not been able to come along with me. i waited so that he could see me go down the track for the first time in my new project. i really hope to see a 13 second pass, but i feel that i may be a little optimistic. the same combo (see cardomain site) went 14.2's in my other car, except i ran a 28" tall tire and now i am running a 26" tire. i was also having some serious problems with the carb last time. i think i had a blown powervalve or something (it was last november, can't remember.) i may just run @30-32 psi and leave it be, for consistancy sake.

Always thought I should drop my pressure to 20ish on my 16s? Hafta research this I guess, my 60ft is already loose in the low 16 second range with new tires! Maybe that is why.

i went with 32 psi and no burnout and did really well. off course, i found out that my motor is really not well matched intake/cam/converter wise. with a new intake and higher stall converter and i might have some problems keeping the tires from lighting up.

Gonna try 32 then, cuz my 60ft dropped from 2.20 to 2.40 when I advanced the timing, speed went up tho! Thanks
