autocrossing an auto?

Car: 1991 camaro rs
Engine: 383 stroker
Transmission: th350
autocrossing an auto?

i know most people don't, if i had all the right suspension mods an the tranny down and upshifted w/out hesitation it should do fine right? does anybody here autox with an auto?

you can do it, you just won't have complete control over the car, you have to be carefull that it doesn' change gears, and upset the balanace of the car, while cornering.

everyone i met that had a auto just leaves it in 1.

it gives them more direct control, and with v8 gearing, you never need to shift into 2nd anyway.

The shorter courses you can leave it in 2nd. When you want the lower gear, floor it, and it will shift to 1st. I never hit 3rd gear on the autocross course, but bounced off the limiter in 2nd. You do more braking/turning than going fast.

I never get out of 2nd, for the most part I just shift 1 -> 2 off the line and then leave it there, unless there's a part where Im bogging real bad in 2nd I'll jam it down into 1st again.
