New times with new drivetrain

Had it to the track twice, won 2 races both times but car never ran very fast and I was embarrased to say what I had under the hood. Well, long story short I set the valves Thursday then could'nt get it started again, pulled the distributor and a better grease monkey than I spotted some missing peices. Drove and hr that night to buy a new one and had my buddy set it up for his "special timing curve" then took it for a spin. Seat of the pants felt better, but I hate judging mods by that method so I just said it ran smoother.

Got to the track tonight, first shot off the trailer ran a 11.40 stumbling at the top of 1st and 2nd gear. Re-jetted 4 sizes up then ran an 11.24. Plugs still lil lean so went up 2 more sizes and got this pass below. I still have'nt messed with timing yet, crrently at 38* all of my passes so far are through the paper $3 air cleaner and 3" dual exhaust so uncorked 10's should be in the bag especially with more tuning. I have a race tomorrow so after I was happy with the plugs went to tuning for R/T. Dropped down from a 4200 pill in the transbrake to a 3600 and made a .504/.509 R/T back to back at night, so hopefully tomorrow afternoon in the day light I will slow down into the .51? range. .50? is too close for comfort IMO.

As a comparison to what I picked up, July 10th I was running 12.00-12.04 @ 111-112mph. So getting into the real low 11's was huge. Just gotta get a wheelie bar since the front end is getting up there, then I can see if these 10" tires can still stick putting all the effort forward instead of upward!!

Also need to mention this is 5 gallons 110 octane to 10 gallons 92 octane. Once I have it tuned better I'm going try straight 92 octane and see if it'll hold without detonation. Cant wait for really good air!! My dreams of a 10 second street car are almost a reality, the car is VERY streetable right now. If I was'nt so afraid of breaking something I'd have no problems making the 30 minute commute to the track, but ya gotta have tools too!! Added a vaccum canister for my power brakes and they work great. Cant hardly hear any lope when it's idleing and only spins about 34-3500 going down the hwy. So far very pleased with the parts I chose and cant wait to see what else is in store with more under hood time!!

Good times!
Was wondering if you could tell me what suspension mods are done except for the jegster?
I am cutting 1.52 on good days now but but usually spinning instead.
I have Adj. jegster, comp 50/50's, Stock sway bar, Spohn LCA,S, and relocation brackets currently in center position, Hoosier 27 x 11.5 QT dot's rear.
Comp 90/10's. no sway bar front.

I have tried everything this year and still spinning. Just put v6 springs in rear but have to wait till wed. But I am sure I will be disapointed because track prep is minimal on wednesdays.

Maybe we can both bust 10's

Although I just saw, your slip says "house of hook"

Ran a new best of 11.172 at 119 Sat. night in the points race-guy red lit so i got to run it out, lol. Already updated the sig. but thought I'd point it out since I'm soo proud

As far as suspension mods, the front is completely stock minus the front sway bar which is gone. The struts and springs were factory V8 I assume since the car came with a 305 and they have 120,000+ miles on them.

In the rear is the Ford 9" and factory sway bar with the LCA brackets in the factory position-aka NO relocation brackets, but I am running Spohn tubular control arms: non-adjustable. The springs are whatever came with the car from the factory also with 120K+ miles on them. Gabreial ?sp gas shocks, basically stock replacement shocks and then the air bags in the springs running them at 5psi in the drivers side and 30 psi in the pass gives the back of the car a level exit off the line, but the nose of the car twists pretty badly so thinking of making a strut tower brace to see if it'll help keep the front end front twisting.

Was leaving of the transbrake at 4200rpm redlighting, then dropped to 3600-still redlighting, went to 3000 made a few .50? passes then redlit again. So first thing this morning I took out 2* of timing dropping it to 36* and the first pass was a .506 and slowed to 11.35.

Went for broke and tried the front tire air pressure trick as a last ditch effort, went from 40 psi to 30 psi and had a .536 and a .535 R/T back to back. Then added 5 psi back to the front tires so know I'm at 35 psi and the rest of the day was .515-.521. This is right where I wanna be, I hate seeing .50? lights as it's too close to putting yourself on the trailer. Car had severe surging today and varied .1? per pass, had a few guys tell me the aluminum spacers will effect the carb signal when they get hot-we only got 5-8 minutes between rounds to cool off. So the last 3 runs the dails were a crap shot, got guys that red lit and a bye run into no-box finals. ran a 11.202 on my bye run, dailed a 11.20 since the car was hot then surged like crazy and ran a 11.26, lost by .062 too It was a dash for cash race with a box/no box final and this was 2 of these dash for cashes in a row I went to the no box final so I was really happy considering the competition. First one was in the truck, this one in the car!!

What did you change in the drivetrain to pick up almost a second? Was your old tranny-converter slipping that much?

The "old" drivetrain I was running 13.0? best of 12.74

Everythiing in the sig is all new, if you read the first post I was running 12.00 with this new stuff and found my MSD distributor was missing a few vital peices, so only change I made was buying a new MSD distributor. Picked up .6 right off the trailer and picked up the next .2 with jets. Still have'nt played with timing yet, so hopeing for max pass effort I can go 40-41* and get'er done with 10.99 pass through the mufflers/breather then maybe mid 10's with good air

Thanks Trevor!! I'm being as subtle about this weekend as I can since alot of the "heavy hitters" at our track were the ones helping me get this thing tuned in as quickly as I did, without them, and as bad as the old dis. was, I may have blown a motor up if the problem would'nt have been caught, lord knows I would've never caught it that quick. Being able to outlast the top 4 guys in points standings by 2 rounds and then having them congratulate me felt pretty good. Past 2 years I've been trying to get to know them better since they have literally years of experience in both wrenching and racing, so I've been soaking up everything they have to offer like a sponge and without tooting my own horn I've been pretty successful at the tracks I race.

I've always believed your only as good as the people your around, so by hanging out and racing with the best our track and others has to offer every weekend, I or anybody else has the choice to either quit racing cuz your getting you azz kicked, or step up to the challenge and Get'R Done!!!!

Consistent enough to win the first 2 races I entered, semi finals in the 3rd race and 2nd place in the 4th race So it's working

After the last incident with the inconsistent numbers when going round robin I hop this plastic spacer will be the cure to the surging I was experiencing, now just need to get my big fuel pump back from Jegs, it took a dump on me and the only pump in town was a Holley red which is my last choice but was my only choice to make the race that Sat. I messed up and installed a fuel pressure gague under my cowl to monitor things and this pump goes down to 3psi under WOT so the sooner my big pump gets back the better. I thik the pressure loss is due to the fact I'm running 5/8" fuel line, so the volume is there but that's alot of hose to fill for a small fuel pump.

Gonna try to get out there tomorrow night, the owner of the truck is gonna try some more seat time, then I told him we could throw some dails on our cars and I'll show him what bracket racing is really like. Past 2 years he's been a fence racer saying "what's so hard, you cut a light and run the number you dail" So I figure I'll put it on'em a few rounds so he can see what it's really about then he'll get a reality check in a hurry.

Gonna come down and race the 31st? Night of Fire so you get to race in front of a huge crowd!!

prolly not. i prolly wont be down until i get $105 to spare for my alum. driveshaft. i think if i get down there with some decent air and that alum. DS i might be able to break into the 15s. all this stuff has to come after i get my truck driving.(got to fire it up today Fvcker is LOUD) it sounds fairly stout at that too. cant wait to crack it open and get on the throttle and see what it will do to my 31"s

Not bad but then your track does only have a 750' elevation. Come into the mountains and try that I'd love to race in your "bad air" days.
