Thinking of moving the battery to the trunk
OK so I am thinking of moving my battery to the trunk. I know that it needs to be in a sealed box with an outside vent, and that I need a cutoff switch. My only question is are there any out there for side post batteries, and are there any out there that are cheaper than the Moroso? $100.00 seems like a lot to pay for a battery inclosure.

The battery box doesn't care if the battery inside is a side or top post. You have to fabricate cables anyway. You just run them to the top or side terminals. I use an Optima battery but only use the top posts because they're easier to get at.
The Tayler box (use search feature to locate link) is a lot cheaper but isn't as nice as the Moroso box and it's NHRA approved.

jerrod, the summit box isn't sealed and therefore can't be used legally for NHRA competition, unless you put a sealed fireall back there to isolate the driver compartment. the Moroso box is pricey, but a nice piece, and easier than this option.

Doh! I missed that one. The cheap Summit box is just a marine battery box that you can pick up at any parts store. It is NOT NHRA legal to use unless a firewall seperates the battery box from the driver's compartment.
Cars like Monte Carlo's etc can use that battery box just by filling in the holes behind the rear seat and filling in the speaker holes in the package tray. That then seals the trunk off from the rest of the car. A third gen being a hatchback has no easy way to do this. Many cars, sedans, that have a back seat and package tray don't even need to use a battery box like that but the trunk still needs to be sealed off.
