F-stock or E-street Prepared??

My transmission needs to be replaced or rebuilt, and my 133K 305 engine has oil all over the block. If I fix that stuff I'll be in F-stock. Mind you the only and only guy in reion that races in that class is in a 03 Mustang GT, and has been doing it for 15 years. If I do what is popular and spend the same or a little more money I can replace the engine with a brand new 350 and get a TKO 600 trans. That puts me into E-street prepared. That class has even older guys in even more worked over Mustangs and 4th gens.

Did I mention I've only done this 3 times, and not once in my 3rd gen?

Recommendations welcome.

get the new engine and new trans, and still try to get into the lower class.

if that doesnt work, well, one of the best ways to get better is to push yourself to beat someone thats better then you

unless this is a autoX only car, i wouldnt base your mods around it.

So you're saying get the 350 and TKO600? I figure to use this car for autocross, road racing education, and very limited drag racing (only to have a relative performance figure for frums like this where the other stuff is less popular). I have a Spec-V for everyday commutes.

if you are interested in moving up to ESP with the car i say go for it. my recomendation going forward would be to run in street mod if your region offers it.
you can do all of the update/backdate stuff taht is allowed by the SP rules, all of teh suspension mods allowed by teh SP rules, you are allowed to have 5.8liters of pushrod motor as long as you don't run a power adder, and you are allowed to do many significant weight reducti0on mods on teh car too. SM also allows you to upgrade brakes and wheels/tire combos to basically whatever size you can fit. hehe
it is also a nicew class to handle you local **** problem in since that is who it was designed to appeal to, even though a prepped f-body would own it

Yeah I did notice I'm in the same class as the EVO 8 if I mod the car.

Since I want to do the upgrades anyway I'm probably leaning in that direction. I was just concerned about the running before walikng bit...

My original plans did not really did not take onto consideration any specific class. If I go by that I would probably end up with an uncompetitive C-prepared car, as I intend on a streetable (sniffer passing and full interior) car I can put my sons in the back and have fun driving on Sundays.

By the letter of the rules; a TKO trans is not legal in ESP and the engine would have to be built to the exact same standards as the stock L98 or the 92 Firehawk 350's, but any Chevy engine up to 360ci and any trans at all would be legal in SM.

So the machine I have in my head would kick me out of the traditional classes. I would see that as a bad thing if my intentions were to compete at Nationals at some point. That ain't in my heart, so I guess I won't worry about what class the car is in or what my competition is either. There are enough pros doing autocross that it would take years of experience to begin being consistenly collecting trophies. Plus there are other forms of racing that could be fun also. (I just wish NASA Proracing was growing in the Chicagoland area instead of Ohio.)

I think they are having challenges keeping folks in those classes anyway, aren't they?

I don't have a problem stepping over letter of the rules as long as I'm faithful to the spirit of the rules. I've been think of going nationals in a couple years, but run in SM.
ESP is still fairly solid class here in central Ohio, FS has fallen off some.

Within INR, Chicago, and Milwaukee there may be 10 F-stock cars, while most of the other guys are in ESP. I'm just gonna make a nice strong car and let the chips fall where they may.
