Slow for a Z28
When I bought my car from the origional owner he told me it was born in California and had the California emissions on it. So I read up on the boards, and went out drove my car, and raced it just this past weekend and was suprised with how it did but still feel it is a slow car. I want to drop the emissions after i pass inspection here in april, and well was wondering how much the emissions took away and everything. I was planning on dropping a 350HO in it, but was really wondering the difference on times.
I ran these times Sunday
1/8 10.87, 10.92, 11.02
How much drastically do you think dropping the emssions would drop the time. My car is completely stock besides stereo equipment, and new tires.

What is it? From your name I'm assuming it's a 1986 Z28 and from your ET it must have a V6 or a very sick 305.

I don't see a listing for a 1986 TBI so I have to assume it's a TPI unless it's got a carb.
1986 305 TPI is listed as having 190 hp. Don't be disappointed, there are worse ones made
Estimating a 3500 pound race weight with 190 hp, the car should theoretically run 15.4. If the car has a lot of extras in it then it will run slower because of the extra weight.
Your best 1/8 mile time of 10.87 would be 16.95 in the 1/4. The engine is sick and isn't producing anywhere near the 190 hp rating since you're off by about 1.5 seconds.

I saw a 4 wheeler ATV run 9 seconds in the 1/8 last night. Thats really slow. Something must be wrong there. Might be a good bracket car if it;s consistent

I went back out to the track at Ennis today for the 1/4 mile. Except for the rain it was quite a nice day.
I have improvement upon last weeks 1/8 times
Now the following 1/4 times are alot slower you think because the people i raced had a really sorry R/T and soo i caught them real quick and well....I just used the brake
Time Trial #1
R/T-.140
60-2.435
1/8-10.859
1/4-16.962
MPH-80.09
Time Trial #2
R/T-.204
60-2.564
1/8-11.233
1/4-17.506
MPH-78.36
slow this time due to spinning. FYI don't roll through water
On to the Eliminations
round #1 E.T.-17.17
R/T-.088
60-2.429
1/8-10.877
1/4-17.603
MPH-66.43<--from the 1/8 i had foot on brake as well so i wouldn't break out seeing i was soo far ahead from the start after catching her off my launch.
Round #2 E.T-17.12
R/T-.014
60-2.445
1/8-10.905
1/4-17.298
MPH-72.28<--also had foot on brake not to break out, seeing i was ahead off of launch, he could just never keep up. 5-6 car lengths
Well due to pooring showers we didn't get the next round, so will have to make that up.
Monthly goal for May:
1.Get out of Class Stock Muscle

nah i totally agree with you man, i plan on keeping the car, just upgrading the stock condition it is in right now. Drop a 350 in, ahh some borla exhaust, and ahh i need a new headliner....

TBI is Throttle Body Injection, not what you have with a carb. Should be the LG4. You could conceivably pick up a bit by ditching the smog pump and such, but it may or may not be enough to really show up in your abysmal times. Time for some bolt ons man (after making sure it's in decent tune, good plugs/wires, etc)... Try a cat-back (something affordable, not a borla...) and a set of headers, followed by a Performer or similar intake... A mild cam would be of huge benefit while you're changing the intake if you're mechanically inclined enough to install it...

you don't need to be fast to win, just keep it consistent and win the rounds. sometimes i wish i hadn't made mine faster, it was easier then...a lot less maintenance and money to bracket race with a stock engine.
but since we are all human, we can't ever be fast enough, right?
