consistantly slower when racing at Atco
for the last 5 years ive been racing at Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, MD. ive posted my best E/T and mph there: 13.16 and 104.73, respectively. since they closed as soon as the first snow hit, i began looking for other tracks to run at while they are closed. i heard about Atco raceway in NJ, as well as their reputation for being a fast track. this is supposedly where alot of the stock LS1 fbodies have hit the high 12s you hear so much about.
so i took my Vette down there for a few passes. while i did post a new best 60ft (1.75) my E/T and mph were down considerably (13.3s at 102mph). nothing is wrong with my car... ive got into a few street encounters and it performs as it always has. the only thing i can think of is that because of the cold weather, they lay down a bunch more traction compound down the entire length of the track which creates alot of rolling resistance.
anyone have any experience with Atco raceway and do you think Cecil County is a faster track?

everyone around here swears that atco is a faster track. personally i've never been to cecil but i go to e-town and atco, as do most people in this area. i've run a best et at atco but a best 60' and mph at e-town. most people say it's the track prep at atco that makes it a faster track then e-town. but your right alot of nice times from ls1's are run down at atco.

Haven't raced at Atco but I've been to Cecil twice. Both times I was there, I hit best MPH. It is supposedly a fast track. I do like the downhill staging. But it cost so much in tolls to get there, I'll just stay with MIR.

My friend runs his Mustang at Atco and Etown. He was stuck in the high 1.7 60's and low 13.2s at Etown.
He went to Atco and pulled off a bunch of 13.0s and even a few 12.9s with 60's in the 1.69-1.71 range. He swears Atco is a much better track than Etown, and his timeslips show it!

Most of our Quick 8 racers will tell you that Cecil is by far a quicker track. And the guys from E Town will tell you that Atco is better. All depends on so many factors. Track prep is the main deal as always, but the ECM brings about concerns.

your right, track prep is really big play in the faster the cars go. as far as a friday night, i wouldn't know, i haven't been to atco ever and friday night's at cecil are always crazy. only one or two runs in a three hour time span. we race with the nsca, so the track is always prepped for 6 second cars.

My friend runs a super gas car at Atco (primarily) and many other North East tracks. I usually act as his pit crew and we use a weather station, etc. to calculate throttle stop timing, etc. There are many variables that come into play, but it is my observation and opinion that weather conditions, density altitude, etc. cause most of the e.t. variations that we encounter.
