Tire Pressure

How low can you go with air pressure on tubeless slicks. I am using Nascar takeoffs at present to determine tire size needed with minimum investment. I have not gone below 20 PSI yet. The sidewalls are pretty stiff.

I have noticed people talking about drag radials running at lower pressures, I think some of them are tubeless.

I run 15 or 16 in my ET Streets without tubes without any problems. I drive to and from the track with them.

I have ET Streets, and run 10-11 psi in them. I havent really noticed and issue with the tires spinning on the rim, but it very well could be. They hook hard though but get pretty squirmy at the top end, which hurts mph!

question for anyone with dot slicks or slicks. have you noticed a vibration up around 85+ mph with them on the track?

becuz when i was at the track with my dot slicks on the weld pro stars i got a pretty damn good vibration up past 83-85 on up mph.

maybe it might just be the center section in the rims for those who have the prostars, ya know the piece that moves.

I'm running tubes now for the first time but when I was tubeless I've run as low as 8 psi. Any lower than that and the car gets real squirrely on the top end. My tires were also screwed to the rims.

Normally I run 10-12 psi depending on track conditions. My best 60' times were at 10.5 psi with tubes.

My dad had the same problem and then decided to go against what some said and had the tires balanced. His 26x11.5 ET Streets were so far off balance. After that the vibration went away, but my dad was very disappointed in how poorly balanced the tire was. If you are talking about a swaying motion thats because you have very little air pressure and thats fine, a vibration from the tires isnt too good.

hmm sounds like i gotta rebalence my tires again. i think our tire balencer machines only spin the tire up to 75mph though, so i dont know how good it will be above that but ill bringthem in and check them.

I run 10 psi in my 14x32 slicks with tubes. If I drop down to 8, the car really starts to wallow around and my 60 ft. times get inconsistent and not much (if any) better.

I also don't balance my tires at all. Wrinkle wall drag slicks will flop all over the place when spun on a dynamic balancer, especially the bigger size tires and if you use tubes. Also, these tires will take a set, and it changes every time you drive on them (or the car sits). If I run my car in 3rd gear on jack stands, they'll REALLY flop around and a huge vibration is felt. But when I run the car 140+ mph through the traps, absolutely no vibration is felt whatsoever. It seems that they flex and move around so much when driven on, that they self-balance. If you need to balance them, use a static (or bubble) balancer, and not a dynamic (spin) type. You could actually be inducing a vibration by trying to balance a tire that has a "set".

YMMV

hmmm you got a good point there, becuz i have M&H roadmaster dot slicks. and the balencer i used u lock the wheel on and spin it, but u can decide what method you want where its dynamic or static or other. i used static and it needed alot of weight put on the rim, im now thinkin of takeing the weights off and run that car next time im at the track with out the weights.

running 6psi in the hoosiers on the truck, 15psi on the car, 9psi in 3500 malibu, and 5 psi in 3100lb Regal, all tubeless DOT slicks. Only car you have to drive on the big end is the Regal, all the rest like a sunday drive.

I have the Prostars on my car. I have 15X10's on the back with MT ET-Street 28X13.5X15. I am running them tubeless and had them balanced. I don't have any vibration up to 120mph. One of the tires took a lot of weights so it must have needed them.

Nothing against M/T, but the few sets we have dealt with all seemed to need quite a bit of weight for balancing compared to Hoosiers.

I ran Hoosiers on my car last year and most of this year. I liked them but found they were very soft compared to MT and they wore out a lot faster. I have a set of Goodyears on the car now.
