I think a stall would help when running a single plane intake. That way you would have the rpm's up when you leave.

As soon as I read the first post I also was thinking low 12's. I don't think there would be enough carb to get it into the 11's.
It's also going to depend on how much the race weight is.

Would an 850 CFM carb make the difference between 12's and 11's? Or would I have to bump it up to an 850 carb and the Comp 306^ .555 lift solid cam to run solid 11's?

About the carb not (stepping on your toes Stephen) but I know of people goin into 11's with 650 dps.........But everyones combo is different some like different things that's all trial and error.......I think you have a great shot at 11's myself!

The truth is I don't have the combo yet. I wanted to draft an 11 second combo first, so I didn't waste money in the long run on pieces that weren't going to give me what I want. I thought the combo looked good for decent 11's and then maybe go for more cam and nitrous if it didn't give me what I want. I just wanted to get some expert advice.

4.56's might get you closer but 4.11's are a good nitrous gear. I'm running the same cam in the 350 that's being built right now can't wait to see what it sounds like hehe

Power to weight.
You'll need to know how much the car's race weight is. From that you can calculate how much HP will be required to get it into the 11's. Build an engine to make at least that much hp.
My 383 had an 850DP with a Crane 114691 cam. Ported camel heads with large valves. 10:1 compression. Low profile single plane intake. It ran very high 11's at altitude in roughly a 3200 pound car. All the specs for my old 383 are still on my web site.
I've seen 8 second altereds with nothing more than a 650 carb also. Depending on the size of the engine and how fast it's spinning will determine the best carb size. My 469 still uses an 850 and I'm at the limits of the carb now. A couple of 750's on a tunnel ram would be nice before the 2004 season.

That cam def. needs more compression then 10.1...10.1 CR is perfect for the next size down..the 282s but the 294S is gonna want 10.5 at least to be a strong runner.
Theres a guy on another board runnign 11.0 CR in a 383 with that cam and I think he gets by with pump gas(maybe a little mix of 110)...the cam bleeds off a lot of cylinder pressure cause the ramps really aren't that fast. Did you look at the Xtreme Energy Solid series cams that are brand new? They have a XS282 that is liek 242/250@.050 with a good amount of lift...the ramps are a lot more agreessive then the old magnum solids.

Wow, didn't know they had a new Solid Series out. That 282 looks pretty good. Not as much intake lift but more exhaust lift. There's a 290solid too, but I'm guessing that would like a lot of compression too.

What do you think the difference in hp and 1/4 mile times there would be between the Magnum 294 solid and the Xtreme 282 Solid?
