Burnout questions

OKay when i went ot the track last and i was doing my burnouts i noticed the first one i did was that when i started in first and got going but had to go WOT after i shifted the shifterto get it to shift gears into second. im not sure if thats normal but i had to go WOT to get it to shift and i shift the car at about 4k and i know when im spinning like in the rain or something it will shift after 4k. i know its just something that shouldnt bother me but figured id give the guys that know more then me about this.

next time ill leave it in drive and see if it will go thru the gears but i think when spinning it will go up past 4k rpm and then shift.
