Rim and tire sizes for slicks.....

Guys the 10.5's arent cutting it anymore, i need bigger tires.....

I've seen plenty of 3rd gens at the track with 28x12x15's and bigger, so i know some of you guys must be using them,

what backspacing are you guys using on rims with slicks to get the best fit.

i actually saw a 30x13.5x15 on an 87 iroc saturday and it looked like it fit nicely, but the driver was no place to be found so i could ask him.

i wanna use a mickey t e/t street thats 28x13.5x15 so i can get the 11" tread width, plus the larger tire diameter could help me out.

I just dont want to buy 700 bucks worth of rims and tires to find out they rub on the inside or hit the quarter panel......

Post your combo and let me know how it works for you

I have no problems with a 29 x 9 slick (not DOT size) mounted on 10" rims with 5.5" backspace. Next year I'm going to squeeze a 29 x 10 slick in there since these tires are just about worn out. I'm getting 2 seasons on a set of slicks.

thats what i figured stephen,

i kinda want the big wide ones though, it will take some of the guess work out and maybe even be easier on the tires.....

the mickey thompsons i have now have lived about 2 seasons.....

i really wanna put those 13" bad boys on there though, i was thinking maybe a 4" backspace would be better for that, give the tire more room to breathe in back

I'm very curious to this question as well, in fact I came hear tonight to post it, so thanks 383. Guess I never thought about it until this weekend at the World Series when I was talking about tire sizes and was told to get the tallest you can fit since it'll put down more actual rubber than a wider tire. I'm hopin a 29x10.5 or maybe the 30 10.5 will fit no problem. My 27 x 11.5 Hoosiers have TONS of clearance everywhere on my 10" rim w/ 5.5 BS

I would look to suspension first....I know guys running DEEP into the nines with true 10 inch slicks Biggest tires I've seen were 28x10w's. I run 26x11.50 ET Streets on 10 inch rims with no problems.

i have south side machine lift bars, hotchkis lca's and panhard rod....the only thing left to do is adjustable shocks front and rear.

i managed a 1.68 60' time with this setup, but i think im overpowering the tires now, i cant launch hard enough to do that

I would try the drag shocks first. I have Lakewood 90/10's and they made a big difference in traction without hurting driveablility at all.

Also I would suggest pulling the front sway bar and possibly relocating the battery (if you haven't done it already)...This would Drastically change the launch of the car, and help my car be WAY more consistent.

im already getting short times in the 1.70's.....moving the batter is not gonna make a big difference......

all the problems right now are tire related, the slicks are just getting worn out, and/or overpowered....in any case it cant hurt to move up to a bigger tire.

when the car was launching good, it was like getting shot out of a cannon, and now im getting wheel spin with no suspension changes
