Ran the T/A tonight

.. and I am very disappointed with the results.

This was my first time ever at the track. The third run when I staged the car's brakes couldn't hold the car and I ended up red-lighting it. I found this was sort of a problem during the second run also.

This is very dissapointing because the car was supposed to be low 13's, but as you can see, its nowhere near that speed. Nor is the mph anywhere near where it should be. I knew this car didn't feel that fast.

Here are the specs on the engine.

* '92 350 Short Block (New ...remanufactured ...'92 Specs)
* Stock Heads
* Crane Cams CompuCam 2032 Hydraulic Roller Camshaft, 214 / 220, .452 / .465 112 LSA
* Crane Hydraulic OE style Lifters
* LT1 Intake
* Stock LT1 Injectors (22lb?)
* Stock TPI Throttle Body
* Stock Rockers w/ Stock Length Hardened Pushrods
* High Flow Cat
* Edelbrock Headers
* Borla 3" Cat-Back

When did you get a T/A? Well, I think the main thing holding it back is the heads. The cam will give it a little more, as will the intake, but with those heads theres no way I can see it running low 13's. what tranny does it have? I would think that if you could pull the heads off and have some work done on those you might be able to get into the 13's, as it is I would think 14's would be easily attainable. But dont worry, you're always slow the first time to the track. First time I went I ran low 14's with one pass at 13.9. I've been back twice and have gotten it down to a 13.1 with a 2.0 60'. It just takes a couple of times before you get the feel for it.

The problem is, the car should be in at least the 14's w/ stock heads.

The tranny is rebuilt. It has a shift kit and other goodies. Shifts real hard, and real fast, so I know that isn't what is holding me back.

oooooo, looks good!

hmm, maybe it needs to be reprogramed for the new goodies? Thats the only thing I can think of, unless the timing is off or something...

You need to get the wireing in that car straight. I wouldnt have even ran it, as it sits. 1. that coolant temp sensor should be fixed. 2. You need to check the codes its throwing and go from there. It should at least be throwing the temp sensor. go turn the key and see if the ses comes on....otherwise theres no bulb in it. Call me if u need any help.

there are no codes when the temp sens is plugged in, it throws a code when I unplug it though. So all seems to be fine. Actually, I might check the timing. I wonder.

It was the entrance to the West Isle, the homes that are on the lake. All mansions.

I have been working on my avatar and haven't yet make it look right. Its much tougher than the Camaro one.

Hey, look at it this way, atleast it looks good! Seriously though, figure out what is wrong with it so it can run right and to its potential. Good luck with that man, and keep it clean too! j/k

You should try working on your RTs and launches--the 60 foot times are pretty high. Get your launch down so you can get off the line with max traction and that'll cut some time off.

Also, what gears are you running and are you still using the stock converter?

3.42 Gears from a 4th gen rear, and 2100 stall converter.

I was still learning to launch the car that night. I only had the car for a week and only driving it for about 2 days. I will get it right soon

With just an LT1 intake on a stock TPI motor they are supposed to pick up damn near a full second, with just the intake! I actually had your cam in my '88, it's a little small, but, you can see what I ran in my sig. Also had some Vette alum. heads, and an empty cat, but still had the stock 2.77's. I'd say you need to tune this thing for Pete's sake...

Ouch! Something is not right. I've had stock LB9 cars that trapped higher than that. Get it to a dyno and see what is going on. By all means - it should be a mid 14 second car at worst. Good luck with getting it sorted out.

I think stock LT1 injectors are 24lb injectors. Couple things...

Check and double check your timing.
Get some prom tuning, some way, some how. With the LT1 injectors you are probably running really rich right now. At the very least get yourself an ALDL cable, a laptop, and Craig Moates software so you can diagnose what's happening in the ECM. (check PROM board for details on obtaining the cable and software. Software is free, cable is under a hundred bucks depending on what you opt for. Really cheap if you have the ability to make it yourself from the free schematics. This does involve soldering circuitry readily available from Radio Shack though)

I would expect with the stock prom and those mods you'd be running so rich you could smell it in the exhaust. That's gonna make for some sluggish launches (as would having your timing out of whack).

well.. I just went out and checked the timing. Finally had some time.

Here is what happened. The light was telling me that my timing was set at 8 degrees..... RETARDED. I couldn't move the dist any more to advance it, it was hitting the intake. With some slight modification to the dist. (a file). I was able to get enough clearance to move it to where I want. It is 8 degrees advanced right now and runs WAY smoother. I can sort of feel a difference, but just the way the car feels now I can tell its better than before. I was messing around with it and moved the distributer another couple of degrees retarded and the car would hardly even run. It was that bad.

Anyway, I am gonna get a cable and some software together soon. I already have a cable for my camaro and was running WinALDL, but I know that I need a different cable and software to run on this car. I will figure out what is happening with the ECM and adjust what I need to accordingly.
