Drag Slicks???

Okay im plannin on gettin the Weld Draglite rims 15x8 for the rear and 15x5 for the fronts. and i was wounderin if the Hooiser slicks 28x9.0-15 are too big for the back end of my camaro? also what kinda BS would i need to have the tire fit in the wheel well and not stickin out a hole lot? the choices that jegs give me 3 1/2'', 4 1/2'', and 5 1/2'', which one would be good? i dont want anything to rub becuz i dont really wanna smash my inner fender wells. also another size for another slick that Hooiser lists is 26x10.0-15.

right now im runnin 255/60/15's on the back of my car right now and i know the wides i could go is 275 at the most with out any chance of rubbin. i just want to know what u guys think would be the best for my set up.
and with the way my suspention is set up i doubt ill have any rubbin issues

What gear ratio is in the diff? Your current 255/60/15 tires are 27" tall. There's enough room to install the Hoosier 28/9/15 slicks. They're a ture 28" tall. The 9" is across the tread since it's a drag slick. Across the section of the tire it's 11.1". Your current tires should only be 10". Hossier recommends a 8-10" rim and used an 8" rim for the measurements.

If you don't have at least 3.73 gears, going to a taller tire might slow you down.

A 5.5" backspace should work fine. I currently use Hoosier 29x9 slicks with 5.5" backspace rims. I had to do a little bit of hammering to the inner fenders because of tire growth going down the track.

www.hoosiertire.com lists all the specs on their tires so you can see what the actual dimensions are. Drag slick width is measured differently than DOT tires. The width of a drag slick is measuered across the tread. DOT tires are measured across the section. Remember that what checking tire sizes.

ill try and find out what gears i have this week, im goin to change the fluid and see. when im cruzin down the highway at like 55-60 about im doin about 2500-3000 rpms almost its kinda inbetween. but ill have to look this week.

edit: so basiclly ill need a rim that is 8inches wide to fit the slicks on. also im not understandin what the section width is. is it how wide the tire is when it has air in it or no?

A 10" rim will do but it will push the sidewalls out a little more.

Section width is the width of the tire across the sidewalls. All DOT tires are measured this way. Your 255 tire is 255 cm across the section. That means it's 10" across the sidewalls. The tread could only be 8" across.

Slicks are measured across the tread so a 9" slick will have 9" across the tread. The distance across the sidewalls will be greater.

As I mentioned above, Hoosier recommends an 8-10" rim. You choose what fits better under the car. A 10" will work fine but the 8" fits better.

You'll be better off with a 26" tall slick, 3.23's just aren't enough gear for a 28" tall tire.
As to what will fit, 10.5x28 et drags fit fine using a standard offset rim. And with a minor inner lip mod you can go to a 30" tall slick.

i had a friend that told me that driving a slick down the highway was a bad idea because the rear end started getting loose once the rubber got warmed up....so if your running an actual slick on the street, you might want something else for roadtrips...

lol no no no no, lol id never drive on the roads with slicks as like normal tires, these would be on a seperate set of rims just for track use.
