Even a 300 HP car can do that. It's all a matter of torque mutiplication and weight transfer.

That's a huge tire on the back of that car. It has to be tubbed out and probably has a 4 link. With a tire that tall I can guess it has at least 5.13 gears.

That pic is of Kidroc, a 415 smallblock nitrous motor, on a 29.5 X 15 - 10.5W tire, mini tubbed, and ladder bars. No big gears either, just a mountain of spray and the Kidroc drivin. Not tryin to be sarcastic but 300 hp won't drag the bumper in an F Body Steven.

Very cool of you to notice that PLANT, In the other lane was the WESTONS PERFORMANCE MALIBU. Matt got the Camaro leavin hard and I was on the full view side during the qualifiying. You can see both cars wheels - up further in the gallery side by side !!

Actually,If the suspension is set up correctly,I think a 300 h.p. car actually can pull the wheels like that.Before anyone gets the wrong idea,I'm not sideing with stephen 87 iroc,I'm not trying to put that guy that's doing the wheelstand down,Any car that pulls the front off the ground is awesome in my book!

A 300hp motor can defenately do it, its all about car setup. Did anyone see monster garage where they got the ambulance to ride a wheelie? Now a 300hp motor in our cars will be harder, but Steven just said a 300hp car.

Like I said, weight transfer and torque multiplication.

Your typical street car is very nose heavy and has non race gears that doesn't multiply torque as much. 300 HP will have a hard time pulling the wheels up on such a car.

Even my car doesn't pull the wheels off the ground or if it does, it's not very far. The front of my car is still heavy. If I did a bunch of modifications and moved the engine/tranny back about a foot then it wouldn't be so hard. I also only use 4.56 gears and a 9" slick. Any more gear and it becomes hard to make the 9" tire hook up. If I backhalved the car and stuffed in a 12" slick and 5.13 gears, all the extra torque would make it to the pavement instead of spinning the tires.

Pulling the wheels off the ground looks impressive but it's wasted energy. Locally we have a couple of Dodge A-body cars that pull great wheelies and run mid to low 10's. Most of the SuperGas cars running a 9.90 index use wheelie bars and suspension travel limiters to keep the front end down.

I've seen cars pull the wheels so far up that they trip the 60' timers with the back wheels.

wheelies are fun to watch liek stephan said, but once the tires are off the ground you have achieved maximum weight transfer anyway. look at pro stock cars, they go around 1.0 through teh 60's, very often tripping with theback tires with teh fronts only a few inches off teh ground.
that being said, i still intend to set up my car to carry teh fronts about 6 inches off the deck for as far as possible

My motor puts out around 340-360hp, out back 270hp, I can almost get the drivers side tire up, almost. That's w/ factory suspension and no real weight difference-last season it was set-up like your daily driver, this season will be a little different though. I want a little air.

My car is heavy to.I have no tub,9 inch rear in stock location,motor in stock position,lakewood shocks and struts and I pull the wheels spinning the tires.Look at my pic.A 11 inch tire with 10 of tread.

9.0L Firebird

Most third gen NHRA stockers use an Alf Weibe (sp?) adjustable torque arm. Put a 6000 to 7000 stall converter in the car with a set of fresh slicks and hang on. You don't need a transbrake. A high torque motor doesn't hurt either.

My friend used to race Vegas in the 70s. He ran 283s with a 4 speed and some large slicks. He would launch at ~6k and shift to 2nd with the wheels still in the air

I like how straight that white 305 car launches. Hail to the 305!

6 or 7 thousand ha. Just put a 200 shot on a forged rotating assembly with a built th350 or 400 on a decent track all youd need is a 2000 stall. With nitro its all about torque multiplying at low rpms not 6 or 7 thousand.

9.0L Firebird

This is what happens when you spray a motor at only 3,000 rpm. Most racers have a window switch wired into their MSD ignition that will not allow the nitrous to hit below 4,000 rpm

Its not that bad on the street from a light.When you jump on it from a roll its stalls up before it leaves.You cant really tell from a dead stop so it dont bother me.I have not stalled the car at the track.I have only footbraked the car.This year I will get the ball to use it.I will have pics when I do that.The car should come up about 2 feet or so.That one track pic is on a worn out set of slicks and footbraking.
