Manuel steering
Anybody got a manuel steering box out of a S-10, if so how do you like it. Bro-in-law has one in his Regal, but I saw him crankin the wheel forever to get it from lock to lock. I'm just lookin to free up some ponies & space so I can get my electric water pump, and the few guys I talked to said ya get used to it and as far a drag racing goes, they feel better with a "looser" box in case they need to correct at speed casue it is'nt so snappy which kinda makes sense.

i put one in mine. The car is my daily driver whenever its actually running, and for about the first two weeks, it sucked horribly. It takes 7 full turns of the wheel to go from lock to lock. Low speed (>5 mph) turning is very difficult, but once you get over 5 mph it's feels almost normal. You can't tell the difference at all going down the road. You will feel it at a U-turn though. I'm more or less used to mine now, and i freed up about 40 pounds in the process...
all in all it's not bad, it just takes getting used to... oh and kiss doing donuts goodbye

Well, I race in the 1/4 and it rarely is street given, plus I've never tried to do a dounut thus far so I think I'll get on the horn and get a manuel box.

Mine is 7 turns also. If somebody knows of a 4 turn box then please post. I'd love to swap over to that box. By lock to lock I mean FULL left to FULL right. Not dead center to one side.

i'm running one in my Z
and i'll about fifth the 7 turns lock to lock.
it's street driven and once you get used to it, it's not real bad at all. I found that with the 225-60-15 tires on the front pumping them up to about 40psi really helps in the steering being easier.
like they said. as far as going down the highway, it feels very good, in the parking lots it's not that bad. but lord help you if you have to counter steer..
Best advice, align it and have the caster pushed as far posative as you can, so it will straiten up on it's own
mine was 50 bucks with pitman arm form the bone yard. and it's herds tighter than the other box was.
one thing to look out for. My Z had the 36mm sway bar in the front. i'm not sure if others are the same, but the box wouldn't fit with the original bracket there for the sway bar, so the bracket and sway bar went bye bye.
i monkied with it for a good hour but it wouldn't work
with a big chunk of the wieght missing in the front, and the SFC's i barely even notice the difference without the sway bar, and the ps..
wouldn't hesitate to put taht box on a play car.
