Cam choice?

Here is what I am going with for my G/F's car. Its a 85 camaro. 3600 lbs. I am building a mild 350 with a 2500-2700 stall converter infront of a turbo 350. It will have 410 gears and about 26" tall slicks or DR's. It would have boxed LCA, all new bushing and etc.... Holly 750 carb, some production 2.02 valve heads with porting, polishing, and milling for 10.5:1 compression. Performer EPS intake or the Holly Street dominator intake she already bought. I was wondering what cam could we get for it? I have seen some 4x4 cams in Summit, Jegs, and Northern Auto Parts. I figure since it is going to be a weekend cruiser and raced at Muncie every weekend we wouldn't want a 8000 rpm monster. We want to make it through the season with out a rebuild. We are wanting low 12's but will take what we can get.

Thanks

-Terry-

Hey Terry, hopefully I'll see your gf's car out at the track next year. I would probably go with a compcams XE274H or XE284H depending on how radical you want to go. You might need a vacuum canister to keep your power brakes working well especially with the XE284H but I think these would be a good cams for that setup.

better get bigger stall like at least a 3500 to a 5000, that's looser on the bottom, minimum advertised duration 300/300 and minimum lift .515/.515 this is just a base starting point for cam suggestions, but those figures would be MINIMUM in my opinion. Your definately gonna need 28" slicks with the 4.10 gears, otherwise your gonna be screamin across the finish line, and if you don't want breakage bring down the rev's. Head's are wise choice as far as porting and valve sizing goes, but your gonna be way under carbed, if your searching for 12's it'll definately have to be mechanical secondaries.

XE284H sounds goods... Think a 3000 stall and some 1.6 rocker on it would still be streetable? I was thinking a 3500 would be to much for the street and only haveing a shift point about 6200 or 6500....

I dont know. Thanks for the help guys.

A 3000 stall is very streetable. Just don't plan on cruising for long distances time under 3000rpm's because it builds lots of heat in the tranny. It should be fine only driving it weekends. Also remember if you go with 10.5:1 compression with cast iron heads you won't be able to use pump gas without spark knock problems, race gas gets expensive if you plan on driving much on the street. The 1.6 ratio rockers won't make that much difference, they will have the same effect as having a cam with a little more duration and lift. I usually try to stick with 1.5 rockers unless I feel the cam isn't big enough for the engine combo.
