Back seats and racin
I was thinkin of takin out my back seats when I go to the track in the spring, just to try to squeeze out a 12 sec run, but wouldn't the little bit of weight it weighs be good since it's by the rear to help with traction?

Unless you are going to strip it to turn it into a full race car..leave the seats in.They are not gonna be the factor that keeps you out of or lets you into the 12's.You are looking at the wrong areas for traction and ET...focus on the suspension and tires. Then add horsepower and you will see 12's.The 10lbs (maybe) the rear seats weight should be the last of your worries.

teh rear seats and belts weighed a total of 37lbs in my car. that is nto a lot of weight, but anything that the car doesn't have to carry down the lane is helpful.
if you are worried about haveing enough weight over the rear, put in more gas. it puts more weight directly oiver the rear adn you won't have to stop to fill up on the way home
the idea of weight is more an issue of weight control, if the car hooks reasonably well, tehn you can reduce weight anywhere in the car with little to no bad effects. if the car spins a lot you need to move weight that is unavoidable from teh front to teh rear, like the battery. teh idea in the end woudl still eb to try to make the car as light as possible.

Yeah, I know removin the seats won't help a lot, I was just askin, I think traction will be a problem, even with some suspesion work, I'm gonna be around 390hp or so DD2000 estimated.

How are your seats so heavy? Mine seem like they weigh like 2 pounds.... I wonder if they're not original.

well, the 40lb speaker box made no differance at all in my et. It dropped my mph by 1 or 2. I wouldn't worry about the seats unless you are stripping everything else out to(removed ac, fiberglass hood, removed airbag, lightweight buckets and all that ****)/

Mark, i think if you need traction just drop a couple of sand bags in the hatch, it should help to weight the rearend down. could be worth a shot

Tell ya where ya can drop a .10 easily, take out the carpet, underlayment, rear seats, all the duct work behind the dash + heater core, seatbelt stuff= 120lbs, just did that Fri. in the bird getting it ready for the cage and paint, damn the dash itself weighs like 40-50 frickin pounds, could'nt believe it and that was after I took everything out and off I could and just the skeleton was left.

I don't see how that weight would affect your traction that much, unless you are on the edge. Figure this one out.
I got some of my best 60' times after removing my spare/jack, stereo equipment, and running on less than a 1/4 tank of gas.
Coincidently, I ran my best 1/8 times with those 60's too. Go figure

I weighed my seats tonight because I'm selling them and needed the shipping weight. The lower parts of the back seats were 4lbs. each and the back of the seat was 30lbs..With the two front seats the total was 130 lbs..The front seats are both power.I have seats from a 97 T.A. in the car now, I don't know what they weigh but I know they are lighter just from carrying them when I did the swap, and the passenger seat is not power.

One day I was looking at stephen87irocs web page and saw that he gutted underneath his dash.I thought geez I am going to have to do that!3 hours later I have 2 trash cans full of duct, wiring, speakers,All kinds of crap.OMG there was like 500 screws in it.I also had to cut the behind the instrument panel out so i could put my gauges in there.
Anyway yeah there was alot of weight in there.I still have the drivers seat,Center console, carpeting and all the plastic in the back by the like the spare tire well. How much does the carpet really weigh?I would really like to keep it in there.Or some kind of carpet atleast.
Also do you guys keep your E-brake's.I think it would be a good idea as just an added measure when the car's on the trailer going to the the track.

also you can drop alot alot of weight by removing the front inner fenders, front and rear crash supports and thaking the crash supports out of the doors and using aluminum for the door pannels, and get creative with a plasma cutter and make aluminum floor pans also ive heard that weld draglite rims will drop your et also

When I gutted mine I was thinkin about removeing the crash supports, but they did'nt seem like they weighed that much, I know every little bit helps, but then I figured my time to construct an aluminum skeleton so the bumper would'nt crush in at speed, I did'nt think it was worth the effort. Here's some gutting...
