Fast 305's?

who all has a fast 305 out there and what is your set up? I know there have to be some out there but I have not heard of many. I have seen 302's, 306's and 308's run wonderfully in mustangs but I have not seen many(if any) f-bodies that run well with 305's.

Thanks Guys,
Marty

Define "fast".

At least one second faster than factory? I'll raise my hand (1st run was 17.65).

"Fast" compared to 5.0s? Well, GM had a performance 5-liter in the late 60's, decided to go with the 305 for fuel economy in the 70's. When the Oval started making their 5.0s fast again, GM decided to slide in 350s (rather than go back to the "real" 5-liter performance engine).

Oh, do these "fast" 305s have to be emissions-legal?

There's a few really fast ones on this board with power adders.
Willie is running 12 flats at over 117 with an intercooled ATI pushing 12-15 pounds of boost, all emissions legal.
There is one running in the high 11's with juice, don't recall his name.
Do a shearch and you should find it.
There was a video floating around last year of a street driven turbocharged 305 Iroc running 9's. probobly could find that in the search too.

You can't compare a chev 305 with a ford 302. The bore stroke combination is all wrong and the ford has the advantage. Now using the chev 302 is a different story. It would give the ford 302 good competition.

I had a best of 13.4@101mph with my LG4 305w/ stock bottom end. Heres the basic combo
Crane 274H cam
RPM intake
Stock heads, ported, 3 angle valve job, bowls blended
Edelbrock 600cfm carb
4.10 gears
1 5/8 full length headers

Not too bad for a cheap naturally asperated 305 with 100k miles on the bottom end.

This past Saturday I ran a 14.86@91.00mph with 4.10 gears and MT ET's. I cut a 1.98 60' during this run. All I have is the beefed up rear, flowmaster exhaust and a mega shifter. I think I can pull out more out of this motor with a new TC, headers and Y-pipe. My goal is a mid 13 all motor before I put the S/C on it.

my dad's car was running low 14's with the 305, but that's with a powerglide tranny that has really bad first gear. (for this car anyway). it had a holley dominator intake with a holley 650 vacuum secondary, and a mild blue racer cam. now he has a 350 with a .488 lift cam and the holley dominator intake and a 650 double pumper running 13.5's but it needs a 750 at least with full length header and some other much needed but no money to buy parts.

I've ran a 15.3@91.39 m.p.h. with my 305,And that was with traction problems,I've been told by people who have seen this car run and people on this board that the car is capable of low 14's-high 13's,But With the way things are going i might not get a chance to find out because i may be selling the car.
