First time to the track with GTA

I did 4 runs at mission raceway tonight. My best timeslip was:

R/T: 1.064
60': 2.119
330: 6.103
1/8: 9.415
MPH: 74.25
1000: 12.277
1/4: 14.705
MPH: 92.83

At the end of each run my SES light came on. I havent checked the code but I'm pretty sure its the same code 43 for the electronic spark control that I've gotten before when going WOT for a period of time.

There were some wicked cars there, it was a lot of fun. I think I'm going to go again before the summer is out.

Any comments on what my times mean and/or what I can do to improve my times is greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

A lot of the really nice cars from Mission are in Calgary this weekend for a big NHRA race.

work on that reaction time for racing later. You need to go when you see the last yellow. I am certainly no expert after three times at the track but I'd suggest anticipating the light a few times until you actual red light, then you can use that to judge where to launch. Your car is about like mine excpet mine is a 91 formula. It looks like its totally stock, mine is close. I would suggetst getting an Ed Wright fastchip. I got one and knocked about .5 seconds off my 1/8 mile time, so it would be more in the 1/4. My best time in the 1/8 so far (there is only a 1/8 track near my house) is 2.06 60' time and 9.06 1/8 mile.

Racing at the strip is a hell of a lot of fun and a lot safer than on the street. There is no such thing as going too fast there.

Well I beat the mustang next to me by 0.1076 seconds. He actually ran quicker but his R/T was 1.306. What I found a little weird is that my 1/8th mile time is quicker: mine is 9.415, his 9.448. And his 1/4 mile time was 14.570, where mine was 14.705. Is this because of the high rev choking of the tpi system? Or am I lacking hp?

I also forgot to mention that I weighed my car afterwards. With me in it it came to 3630lbs and without 3465lbs. I guess I weigh 165 then!

If you get a practice tree from summit they run about $80 but they are worth it. They are hand held & you can get a brake release for them or you can push the button on the tree it self. Both works.

There is 177,000kms on it. Not sure exactly on the calculation but just over 100k miles? I just matted it off the line and manually shifted it. I think I could get a better time because of my launch which spun a little too much (but better more than less) and of the SES light coming on, lol. I hope to get things worked out for this friday and hope to get deeper into the 14's.

Just drive it like you stole it man Reason the code 43 poped up was probably saying "you're driving me too hard".

BigAl, there are three yellow lights and then the green, when the very last yellow JUST lights up-GO. Don't be like the goof ball kids I raced and whooped last SAT night and wait for the damn thing turn green-none of them understood why I left before them and did'nt red light. Even after I explained that I was in motion .509 seconds after the green lit and they left 1.12 after the green. It takes practice that's no question and even guys like us that race every weekend cut some bad lights-not often, but it happens. The biggest thing is learn how to dail your car in and learn how to play the game on the big end, otherwise your gonna get beat everytime, guranteed. If your going out on factory tires, please don't make yourself look stupid and spin till you hit overdrive. If you start to spin off the line, let up and get back in it, alot of times she'll start to hook up, otherwise you'll look like a fool spinning forever. When your in the staging area, talk to the guys that are up there, most of the really fast guys are too good to talk to laymen, not all, but alot. Look for the guys running high 12's and slower, they'll be MORE than happy to explain any questions you have, plus it's that commradery that'll make the experience fun for you and hopefully bring you back so guys like us can take your money!!! Good luck!
