Vortec 350vs trickflow 302?

buddy of mine has a TF twisted wedge 302, with the street TF intake, a .544 lift 212dur cam, long tube headers of some kind. He has every suspension mod known under his stang too. last time we raced I beat him badly in a short race. little less than 1/8mile. he said he was spinning bad, which is probably true.

Anyway he wants a rematch at the track. last he ran was a mid 13 at 108mph.
I've never been to a track, but gtech tells me 13.9@107
so probably 14.1@103

However before we race I will hopefully have my LCA reloc brackets and boxed LCAs in. SFC's should also be in hopefully.
and if I'm lucky my 2500 TC will be in also.
He is going to be running DR's and a rebuilt trans
Anyone think I will be able to beat him?

He's talkin a lot of trash, wants to bet money etc. I want to at least be able to hang with him

With that setup and a cam that big, he should be running low to mid 12's. I've got a smaller cam and the track heat intake and run 12.70's on street tires with stock control arms, mismatched converter, and mismatched gears.

my opinion

13.0's should be his range... maybe less if it's right.

I'd spray em, it maybe hard to keep up. Darn ole mustangs, cheap and easy to make fast.

If he's running 108mph, then your chances are not too good. You need more power. If he hooks you are toast.

Your best bet is to race on a slipery surface.

If he's running 108 mph trap speeds he's good for 12.50's - 12.60's if he can put it to the ground. I still know there's more in a combo like that. There isn't much difference in the track heat and the street heat intake except the track heat likes a little more RPM. With a cam like he's got it looks to be matched pretty well to the street heat intake duration-wise. I think he should be trapping 109 - 110 and running low to mid 12's.

it really sounds like he has ya covered, *** it hurts me to say that.
without the drag tires i woudl say you could make a race of it most of the way down track but he will get you on top end. wiht him on drag radials i think you are pretty much toasted right off the line.
teh convertor and relo's will help a bit with your hook, but a full 5mph difference in teh trap speeds is gonan be a lot to try to cover.
hell, give him a run anyway. maybe he will spinn real hard off the line or miss a shift or soemthin.

later

Tomorrow night, Friday, Secret Street should be running at Race City here in Calgary. From the amount of snow we had last weekend the track probably isn't in the best condition and the pits are probably still very wet.

It only costs $20 for car and driver to go have some fun. If he has more power than his tires can handle then all you need to do is hook up and you should have no problems.

Bragging rights mean nothing unless you have that win on a timeslip. Everyone thinks they have a 12 second street car only to find out it runs mid 14's.

my buddy had that same setup in his LX 5-speed and he ran a 12.24@112. That mustang should easily run 12's. Im not sure if the altitude is even close to being the same there as it is here, that could be a major deciding factor.
