yet, another question about some rims

yet, another question about some rims
ok, now I have a factory 7.5 rear end.
On the back rims, if I ordered 15" rims with 5" backspacing would I be able to get them 10" wide and fit? That is the question.
I'm pretty sure 8" rims would fit.
Just trying to do alittle homework before I order some.

10" wide 15" rim with 5.5" backspace fit perfectly even with the older rear disk brakes. The larger aluminum caliper disk brakes may have clearance problems.
Backspacing for rims depends on what rims you want. Some rims only come in specific backspacing. Some don't have any choice on backspacing.

Stephen I dont know how you fit a 10" 5.5 BS rim on your car. lol I put mine on with an 11.5 DOT and it scraped the bump stop all the way down. Same thing on my buddy's 89 IROC with 15 x 10 5.5BS and 275/50 Nittos.

The rim will fit but it also depends on what tire you're going to use. I originally had 26x10.5 DOT tires. The sidewall width is 10.5". I then ran 28x9 drag tires with a sidewall width of 10.8". Both had no problems.
I'm about to go to a 29.5x10.5 drag tire with a sidewall width of 13.1". I know I'm going to have to do some sheetmetal work to get them in. I have an extra set of rims with 3.5" backspace but it looks bad with the wheels sticking out that far.
MT ET Street 28x11.5 have a sidewall width of 11.1 "and the 26x11.5 are 12". Which ones were you using?

The 10" wheel with a 5" backspace should fit if you modify the inner well some.
I'm not too sure what kind of 60fts or ETs you plan on running, but in my opinion, I think an 8" wheel should work for you just fine. Right now on my car, I have an 8" wheel with a 4.5 backspace and the tire (29x10.5W) sticks out of the quarter some. If you go with a 10" wheel with a 5" backspace the wheel will even stick out further.
A friend of mine was running an 8" Dragstar with a 5.5 backspace and a Hoosier 29x10.5W slick that fits inside the wheel well really nice. He did have to modify the inner wheel well a lot though to get it to fit without rubbing.
I guess it really comes down to the size of tire you are planning on using.
Good Luck...

appreciate all the comments...
I'm running in a radial class in TN. I'd like to stick a 295 R15 50 or 60, under it.
I've had 4.5bs with 8" rims in the past. At the time we had 28x12.5ET streets on them. Talking about filling the wheel well full.
Those rims stuck out alittle more than I liked.
I got some grand National rims on it now. They stick out more than I like. I think they're 4.5"bs
I don't mind beating the inner wheel well to make one fit, don't know about cutting though.
I'm patient, I want to know what will fit before I buy a pair.

Usually, you would have more of a problem getting wheels to clear calipers on a disc brake rear end. Drums on a 7.5 rear end aren't very big, so you should have no problems with clearance. I have a 9" in my car and at one time I also had ford drums that were massive (switched to Wilwood discs). With the Ford drums, the Weld wheels were tight, but fit without problems.
Hope this helps.
