difficulty in getting my 305 into the 13's?
i have not taken this car to the track yet and have no idea what it would run but how hard is it to take 305s into the high 13's without supercharging or nitrous?

Yes it is very hard. At least if you want to keep the engine streetable. You are looking at a fairly wicked cam and some really good heads. That and throwing emissions out the window. It is possible but i would say suspension mods plus 4.10 gears another must.

smokin87iroc should be in the 13's right now, 87 iroc 305/ 5 speed, headers, cut out, flowmaster muffler, siamesed intake, LT1 cam, ported heads and I think a few other things but without the ported heads or LT1 cam he was runing a LOW 14 I think.
I would do something like that and do as much weight reduction as you can. There is a GREAT article on it in the tech article section. I have no floormats, A/C, smog, GFX, rear seats, no spare or jack at the track, no power options at all, no cruise or wheel tilt, and soon ot have a fiber glass hood and I took of the steel wheels and put on aluminum Z-28 wheels and I will pull the insulation out from under the carpet soon along with a aluminum radiator. It should weight barley 3,000 pounds with a full tank of gas.

13's on a 305 arent easy.
The weenie bore limits your head choices (you will need aftermarket heads). I guess vortec's will work. As said earlier your best bet is a lot of cam, a lot of gear, good intake, a high stall converter, and a lot of weight reduction.
It can be done...but why spend all that money when you could run 13's way easier.
Toss in a pretty much stock 350 with a mild cam, and bolt ons and you'll be there. Its just a matter of how much you want to spend.

i'm pretty close, never been to the track just judging by the cars i've beaten. I regularly beat new GT mustangs and sometimes beat LS1 F bods. Even been close with a few C5 vettes. It would be hard to do if you want to keep it emissions legal though.

I got my 305 into the mid 13's with the stock bottom end(LG4). You definately need better heads. I used the stock heads and had them pocket ported, 3 angle valve job, bowls blended, and milled .030 for 9.2:1 compression. Also be careful with cam selection, bigger is definately not better for a 305, I used a crane 274H cam. I used 1 5/8 full length Hedman headers, performer RPM intake, 600cfm edelbrock carb. As far as the drivetrain goes I had a B&M 700-R4, 3000 stall torque converter and 4.10 gears. With the low gears traction was a problem so I had to use MT ET steet tires to hook up well at the track. With this combo I ran a 13.4@101mph uncorrected. This was a very steetable combo but not something you would want to drive everyday and of course not emissions legal.
