Hello Everyone,

Sorry for my late response here. Here's what's going on. I recently had to take my car off the road due to a busted transmission and lack of funds. I'm also busy with school and work this semester. Add in the fact I don't feel like planning a big meet this year.
I wasn't going to do anything at all. However, I know some were looking forward to this. So, I need your feedback. I'm thinking that we can just all meet at a park one Saturday, maybe even have some camping. Up to you. I doubt it will be as big with such little notice along with not having as many activities and extras offered this year. Good news , it would be free.

So, let me know if you would still be interested in just having a bbq type of thing at a park, it would most likely be in Deep Creek Lake, MD for those that want an idea of distance.

I'm hoping for 2005 to be a big event, so we'll see. Give me some feedback here for '04.

BTW- this will most likely be a late July meet.

Maybe make it a bi-anual event? Or maybe someone can arrange for it to be on the west coast every other year, then back to the east, along with a smaller get-together on the opposite coast?

Just throwing out some ideas!

I agree, we need something, however just make a call to someone to make sure that the cops can't come over and kick us out or some crap when we all start gettin there and ruin our whole day... especially since i'd be drivin 5 hours or so. But we need some kinda meet again.

I feel really bad Mark. Every time I tell you I'm gonna show up to hang out my car breaks or I'm short on funds. I'm interested though. Maybe if I keep my fingers crossed and find about a dozen 4 leaf clover in the next month nothing will happen. I'VE GOT TO MAKE IT UP THERE SOMETIME!!! Can't let you guys drink ALL the beer.

Later,
Harry

Sounds like a Good Idea to me about makeing it Bi-Annual...that way the West Coast Folks have have their big one every other year while we have a smaller one at the same time and vice-versa(less load on the planner too....or more stuff cuze of the extra time )

Really looking forward to seeing some of the Folks from 3rdgen.org this year as I missed last years event.

I'd love to have anything to go to and just hang out.
I wouldn't mind if I had to pay for renting a place to have it at, I would have paid more just for 3rd Gen Nationals just to go to it.

How about having it at some big parking lot. I know people have car shows in parking lots all the time, just have to figure out who they go through.

The idea of holding it at a park is fine. But the concern about the cops or park police getting uptight over several cars showing up is valid. We held an informal BBQ on hte spur of the moment for the 4th of July weekend out here on the West Coast last year. The Park Police kept cruising by every 15 minutes. Then they accused us of holding a car show without a permit. Crazy. I guess the Lowrider crowd and gangs have given them cause for concern in the past.

I have an alternative suggestion. How about taking your one-day event back to Mason-Dixon dragway? Those that want to run at the track can. The rest can hang out, enjoy a BBQ and line up their cars for an informal Show n' Shine.

I'd love to go to another. Let me know how I can help out with the planning and such, but "we" need to really get moving on it though...it's already March and we were way further ahead last year than we are now.

Lon's idea sounds good...maybe it would be easier to have a one day thing, less hassle to plan. I was hoping this would take off a little better than it did. Last year's turnout was great for a first time deal but the interest seems to be lower this year.

Let me know what I can do.

I like the park idea, but I'm afraid we'd get kicked out. Those of you that camped last year remember how bad that sucked. No noise after 10 or something like that.
Here's a crazy idea, What if we have someone sponsor this show. I went to small shows around PA after nationals and usually it was a Fire dept. or local business that ran the show. Really, all we need is space to have a gathering without getting police involvement. I like the park though, hopefully we can at least do that.

i think the mason dixon idea that lon suggested is very good.

i agree with ed. any planning that needs to be done, NEEDS to be done quickly.

mark, if you need some fundage for reserving something, lemme know.

also, i'm in a steady job now, so i will consider making the trip. i'm going back to the lehigh area for lv5, and i missed nats last year. so i want to do a couple roadtrips this summer.

I'm thinking about making the trip, if only to perpetuate the event till next year. I was hoping for more, but I understand it's a lot to plan and arrange, and I'm NOT complaining. Ah, H***, I'll probably shine up the ride and be there!
And I like the dragstrip idea too.

Hey guyz,

There is a big car show in Ocean city, MD in may. As the name inplies it is right on the ocean. I think we should have the meet there. There is camping near by at Asateque Island (Beatiful place), it is a large event. We could find a parking lot somewhere there to have the gathering while also checking out all the other rides. There might also be a strip within a reasonable distance.

What do ya think?:lala:

What about Cecil county? We tried for it last year. Much nicer pits. Not complete dirt. A test and tune day would be best. More runs without the worry of elimination. More comfortable.

I've been going to cecil county dragway for the last couple weeks now. Saturday morning test and tune days are not crowded at all although it costs 35 bucks to race cause all the dragsters come out to practice and it opens at 8am. They have huge paved parking lots for everyone which is better than mason dixon dragway.

I like the sound of Cecil county dragway...but thats pretty far from the original plan of deep creek lake (they named a lake after a creek? crazy marylanders...). Cecil county is close to my house and I think we could get the guys from firststatefbody.com to show although a bunch of them drive 4th gens.

You know, I keep forgetting how far over deep creek really is (I just did a search for it and get this, there's 8 deep creeks in MD…). Beaver springs (think middle of PA) is actually further from deep creek (3.5hours) then it is from the Washington metro area. I guess mason Dixon is easily the closest at a couple of hours, followed by 75&80, then capitol and beaver springs/Kanawha Valley Dragway(WV/ohio boarder)/Charleston are about tied followed by cecil….

Geeze… talk about the middle of nowhere…

Hey Mark, I know you're juggling a lot of stuff right now, but let me throw this out there to consider. It seems like everyone wants to get together and have some fun without a lot of expense or hassles, right? Well, my place is located about half an hour from Frederick, Md (where TGN was held last year.) I'm at the dead end of a dirt road, and it's real private. There's a field - about five acres along a small creek - where folks could camp out, cook, party, etc. I can post some pics if you want to see what it looks like.

Someone esle could plan it. I actually know a couple places here we could do it. I don't think i'd have time to plan something either. We have tons of parks and **** here. But only track is 1/8th...however its cheap...10$ to race for 4 hours. 2 hours test and tune and 2 bracket racing.

Someone else outta arrange something this year. I'd like to have a meet of somekind again.

I'm also willing to do what I can from down here to get the Nats rolling, but it's all for not if people start griping about having to drive some distance again and not show up.

i am willing to do it anywhere, i just had a great time at the last one, i've been into thirdgens since they came out, i didnt even know this board existed till the nats, despite people s belly achin it has to be done, i'm absolutely willing to join in to help organize it, but it's totally up to mark , he did a great job with the last one despite the obstacles, hopefully we can organize something, i'm sure with all the members who are active on this board we can come up with something

Mark,

I'll support you 110% on Cecil County this summer or anywhere this side of IL.. I've been trying to attend a TGO sponsered event for the past 3 years. I'm stationed in up state NY at FT Drum 72 miles north of Syracuse, so it would be awesome to share car knowledge in person with fellow gearheads like myself.. I just got back from a 12 month rotation in Iraq and before that I got deployed to Afghanistan for 4 months at the time of 3rd F- Body Gathering in Frederick making it a 16 month rotation with a 2 week vacation between the two of them. Needless to say I'm from Frederick too and my sister lives directly across the street from the fairgrounds, so I was pretty amped about the gathering in my hometown. Man was I bumbed out when I got picked to go to Afghanistan. Holla back at a brother.
