long story short,i had my 425 sbc built but what i thought was a reputable shop.i think hes now gone.anyways he started build in fall o5,i picked up spring 06,just got it running may 07, so even if he was around still i think id be screwed on time limit for any type of warranty.i have no way of proving it was never run.my loss.reason i mention all this when i did get her running theres a knocking noise.not valve train,dont think its a rod knock for several reason .i think it may be more like piston slap or the likes.it almost sounds like a quiet diesel engine.it seems to be with crank speed and not cam speed and tends to lessen as it warms but doesnt go away entirely but the nois eisnt noticable if at all above idle.granted it has headers and a loud exhaust but the knock doesnt get louder either.
regardless ive gone too far on this restoration to live with a knock so i am going to regretably pull the motor to have it looked at to determine a cause.so i need a reputable shop who could go thru it and make any repairs to keep this dog from a knocking.all the parts are new.i dont know anybody who is reputable .i can grab the phone book but then it s like who knows what you get.anyone help?

BAD INTENTIONS

you may want to make sure the flywheel/flexplate and/or the torque converter bolts are tight first before you pull it out, you should use loctite on them, ive seen them become loose and they dont have to be real loose to make a knock noise..just my .02

there was no lock tight used .i hope they didnt come loose.its only been run for about an hour total also..is that possible?also i can check convertor bolts but not the flywheel bolts w/o removing trans..hat eto drop the trans unles theres a way to isolate the noise.

if i need a rebuild can anyone second the above choice and or suggest others?

Yeah, what Xpndbl said or maybe Fast Times but either way you go ur going to be waiting a long time since its the peak season right now.
