differences between LM1 and L98 when building an engine

Well the engine im getting is not an L98 like I was told but an LM1 and I was wondering if these were basically the same blocks and what is different. I was told the heads on these engines are different and the LM1's heads I have are bad performers so I should try to get some better heads but what else would help me along on my quest for HP/TQ. Im thinking of just trying to get an LT1 or something if this engine has no potential. my goals are basically just having around 300 ft/pd's of tq at the wheels and maybe like 250 HP. If I get more money for the project then id like to get 300 HP out of this engine if its possible.

Well,

For starters, your block is not a roller, all 87 up factory 350 blocks are roller.

The heads arent that great whatsoever, real iron l98 heads would be better, especially with some quickie port work and a nice bowl job.

Or you could use vortec heads and intake for a cheap bang for the buck alternative.

My choice? I would find a late model roller block and go that route. I like roller cams more, not dissing flat tappet, but reliablility and performance easily favor the roller cam.

That being said, do u have emissions out there? Your still in Porter Count, you have emissions correct?

So technically speaking you need to run port injection or TBI at the least. I would go TPI myself as there are many intake options available depending on what you ultimately choose to do.

Educate yourself and explore all your options and ask questions when you dont know.

The more you start to play, the more aggravation you will have :-)

Its part of the game, take one thing at a time and figure out your goals and the money your allowed to spend.

Just my two cents
later

i am going to pick up an l05 block soon. i am going to need new heads intake cam and other stuff to make decent power though. but its free so ill take it. you might want to look into those, lt1s are expensive, unless your transram88 then you get one for free. come to find out that the kid how left it in his moms garage sunk 2 grand into that thing.......finders keepers
